Hello. My husband has nsclc with mets to the bones. He had the combined carboplatin/pemexetred chemo had one session of radiotherapy, and is now on maintenance chemotherapy with is just the pemexetred on its own. He gets that every three weeks ongoing. Your mam might get the same, but each treatment plan is tailored for the individual, so your oncologist will keep your right here.

Dear Hope1972

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your Mums illness. The usual routine is to re scan 3 monthly to assess the effect of the treatment that she has had. You can discuss this with your Mums lung cancer specialist nurse who can provide the information on what to expect next. If your Mum does not have a specialist nurse, she can be referred to one either by GP or Oncologist.

If there is any other treatment required (based on recent scans) then this is usually discussed with the Oncologist management team. There are other treatments options for lung cancer now (including stage 4) called Immunotherapy/Targeted therapies, but it requires a specific cell present in the biopsy for it to be effective. I have placed a link below if you wish to look at it: the first is from our website roycastle.or and the second from cancer research UK.

There are ongoing clinical trials for lung cancer and these can be found in the following link:

If you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our free nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

Kind regards
