He needs lots of love and caring from his family right now. Must have clean air conditions around him. Probably meds for anxiety. Must keep calm because upsets make it harder to breathe. No rushing around or carrying slightly heavy objects to make breathing more difficult.

Having a pulse oximeter to check the breathing helps. These can be purchased for $12 if you look online. Having a portable oxygen concentrator helps, too, for when he must leave the house. Like the Inogen 3.

Small daily exercises help especially ones to strengthen the diaphragm. Improvements will be slow over the months. You did not say what it is he has wrong with his lungs but anything that strengthens will help most.

Wish I could be of more help.......I am just trying to think of what I needed most when I was very bad. ( I changed my diet drastically, and took 6 main vitamins/minerals and did small strengthening exercises for months and got myself off of oxygen completely, after the doctors told me I would be on it for life).

Hello prayagshah1,

Sorry to hear about your relative. Winded has given good advice. Perhaps a build up energy drink such as Fresubin would help him get his strength up. :)

Dear prayagshah1

Sorry to hear about your relative with his lung problem.

Winded has given you great advice, we also have a very useful booklet on managing lung cancer symptoms, however even if the lung problem is not lung cancer , it gives good advice on managing breathlessness with reduced lung capacity. You can view it on the folllowing link: roycastle.org/system/file_u...

You can request the booklet to be posted out to you from our website roycastle.org

The British lung foundation also have great focus on managing breathlessness, this is the link: blf.org.uk/?gclid=COnFtfyzi...

Being breathless can casue anxiety and panic, so important to find ways best for them to relax and pace themselves. Is your relative on oxygen at home? Doing little activity, not strenous and eating small and frequent meals. They may find that having light bedclothes and windows open can help. Perhaps involve GP/ District Nurse to assist with assessment and what benefits/aids may be of benefit.

If you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our free nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

All the best
