Hello Miasam

From your post it sounds like your husband had surgery to remove the tumour?

If someone is stage IIb there is some evidence that chemo can help for some people to "mop up" any residual cancer cells. This relates to the N1 - which indicates that there were some cancer cells in his lymph nodes. No one can say his cancer will come back, or that it won't.

It is a very personal choice as to whether someone wants to have chemo after surgery in this situation. There is no right or wrong answer, it has to be what feels best for you.

If your husband has decided chemo is not right for him he should be seen by his cancer doctor, usually after 3 or 6 months, to check how he is doing. If he, or you, are aware of any changes in his health in between appointments, you can call and arrange to see someone sooner if this is considered to be a good idea.

If you want any further information do give us a call on Freephone 0333 323 7200 option 2 and we can send you our Lung Cancer Answering Your Questions pack.

Hope you are both coping okay and feel free to ask any questions,

best wishes

Hi Miasam

Sorry to hear that things have not been great recently. I am sure they will repeat the x-ray next week when you see the consultant. If the antibiotics are doing their job and it is consolidation of infection there should be an improvement on the x-ray. If there is no improvement I am sure your husband will be sent for a CT scan. This should give the consultant a better picture of what is going on. If they don't suggest it please ask about a CT scan.

I hope you husband starts to feel a little better soon.
