I just wondered how many people take or have considered taking antidepressants. They have been suggested to me and I am unsure of the next step and when the right time to take them is??

Anti depressants who takes them?
Hi Bow, I am not really one for taking any medication unless really necessary, but after going through this cancer journey I now take whatever I need to help along. I haven't taken antidepressants but I certainly would if I really thought they would help through a difficult period. I'm certainly making use of some sleeping pills at the moment.

Hi Bow19, when I was diagnosed I really hit rock bottom, I was in a bad place and I knew I needed help, what help I needed I dint really know but thankfully my cns surgested I try anti depressants, it only took a couple of wks and I started to feel a bit normal then things seemed to be better in a way where I could come to terms with what was going on, I was able to focus on getting through surgery then chemo and then to get back to work in which i did after being off work for 6 mths, I was free of cancer for 2 yrs in which the nasty bugger came bk in other lung and in nodes in chest wall, more chemo and then got back on track and back to work, I'm at the stage now where I was able to ho nk a rial at Christies in which I must say I'm so grateful to ave another shot at trying to keep the bugger at bay, I've just had a ct scan after being on the trial for 2 mths awaiting results, do the answer to your question is it's help me being on antidepressants do I would give th a trial they may help, best wishes and good luckx

Hi Bow,
Following my dx in Oct 2008,I found it very difficult to cope with my new situation,I was feeling so gloomy about my future prospects, kinda like,no light at the end of the tunnel.Well I soldiered on in this state for quite a while,I was not really getting my thoughts and emotions properly under control,so I made an appointment with my GP to discuss my situation.Well my concerns about taking pills were about becoming addicted to them and feeling like a bit of a weakling in feeling the need for them.I swallowed my pride,so to speak, and began a short regime of taking sleeping pills and anti-depressents.Well as it turned out,I gradually began to recover my feelings of well being,I can beat this disease, the pills did their job in getting me over a temporary hump and I stopped taking them without any bother whatsoever, they were'nt addictive after all.
Best Wishes,
Eric.
