Unsuccessful blood test

A very experienced nurse has been this morning but was unable to get samples of my husbands blood for the pre treatment test. The veins just didn’t appear or collapsed. I rang the chemo unit & the nurse there told me to find a different nurse! She really upset me & now I’m worried about how a sample will be taken & if that was her attitude... how will my husband be treated in the unit?

He’s got a lot of additional problems with the brain mets, balance, speech & coordination so I’m desperately worried as I won’t be able to be with him due to Covid rules.

This happens more often than people know. When they can’t find a vein they need to call in a nurse who uses a portable ultra sound to locate one that can be used.

My power port made it easier to give me chemo drugs and today they use it to draw blood. Ask for them to go ahead and put in a power port they discussed with you. It will be so much easier on him.
