I just got home after a 2 day stint in the hospital. I now have a blood clot in my right artery that feeds the right lung. Dr. said that within 1 month after surgery was prime time to develop one. They say it will dissolve and absorb back into my body with time but this shortness of breath really scares me. I have been put on Xarelto for the next 6 months hoping no more clots will form. Anyone else have this problem?

Blood clot post surgery
How very scary for you. I've not experienced a blood clot personally but it's my understanding that they are fairly common. My mom had them in her legs. Her oncologist told us that cancer cells generate a protein that causes clots to form.
I've met several other cancer patients who experienced this and corresponded with many more. I'm sure that others here will be checking in with their experiences.
I has a pulmonary embolism after lobectomy and about a week after my second round of chemo. the worst pain of have ever endured. was in the hospital for a week. was put on cumadin injections.in my abdomen. eventually I aspirated the clot. hope you are feeling better
i had a clot in my lung, very painful, I was put in the hospital for 2 days and put on heraprin by IV, once it was gone then I was put on Xarelto and told I would have to take it the rest of my life. Doctors failed to find out where the clot came from, I hadn't had any surgery.
I pray this takes care of your problem. My brother-in-law had this problem following surgery. After the six months he was able to stop the blood thinners.
I developed a Pulmonary Embolism which was found when I was initially diagnosed and in the hospital, (due to side effects from a Brain Met). It was during that stay that I learned my brain tumor, was actually a Met from Stage IV LC. My PE was found on my first Chest CT Scan and they immediately put me on Heparin IV, for the remainder of that stay. When I was discharged I was put on Lovenox injections (twice a day) and stayed on those for about 2 months until it resolved and then was switched to Xarelto 20 mg daily, which I'm still on (now two years). I never had any surgery -- the PE developed on it's own and my Oncologist told me they can be quite common in Lung Cancer. I have also been told, they will keep me on blood thinners permanently, as I'm now at a higher risk of developing them again. Thankfully, I never had any symptoms, pain or shortness of breath.
I would not hesitate to call your Oncologist/Surgeon at any time if you do not feel better, especially if you any worse, have increased pain or more difficulty with breathing.
Wishing you the very best....
I was hospitalized for 6 days for blood clots in my lung. It was so painful and scary. My breathing was horrendous. They had to put me on oxygen 24/7.
I take a lovinox shot everyday. They tell me I will be on that for at least 6 months.
Finally starting to feel better. And hope to be off the oxygen soon.
