I hope this helps you.

I did the Cambridge Diet years ago which took 6 months to lose 2st.

excellent diet but then the weight crept back on as I gave in and start having cereal with a banana or Toast and Jam for breakfast. This was not filling enough and I was always feeling hungry. I was having roast potatoes with meat and lots of veg. for Dinner. I used to snack on cakes and chocolate. What a bad move that was.

Because I am limited in what exercises I can do my weight escalated very quickly.

I asked for Slimming Tablets to get me started as I have 5st to lose but GP's not very helpful.

I have just started the Atkins Low Carb Diet here are a few books which may help you.

NO BREAD, NO CAKES, NO CHOCOLATE basically NO WHEAT

Daily I now have Eggs and Bacon I feel full to about 1pm then I have salad and Black Coffee.

I love EGGS and BACON for breakfast with MUSHROOMS or TOMATOES - BUT NO BREAD Its filling and I don't feel hungry.

I drink numerous cups of mild black coffee throughout the day.

I grill 3 rashers of Bacon and use 3 eggs for scrambled egg or as an omelette.

BUT if you can't do without chocolates you can have only 2 small chocolates at night as a treat. So this keeps me going as its something to look forward to.

Mike my husband has lymphedema and lots of weight to lose. He's made a great start with the 5/2 diet. For two days every week, they mustn't follow each other, he eats just 600 calories a day, for the rest of the time he eats what he wants. The weight has fallen off. 3 stone in 3 months and it isn't at all hard as all you've got to do is fast/cut down drastically

for one day knowing the next you can eat what you like.

I've done it too and lost inches off my waist.

Believe me it works.

Hi Mis2,

What are the Menus or foods to eat.

Can you give me any tips.

I have problems dieting with lymphoedema ..i honestly find if I restrict myself and i mean restrict my self to cutting down salt, sugar and fat.... with in a week my swelling has gone right down..the small watery lumps on my legs go down..I also have to take a mild diuretic

The low carb route is not just a diet, it is a way of eating for life and works. My husband and I have followed the principles for nearly 10 years now. Intially we both lost close to 4 stone and have maintained a steady weight ever since.

A book to add to alfie19's list is

"Life without bread" by Wolfgang Lutz.

The rules are very simple - copied from Page 5 & 6 (you can read on the 'look inside' feature on Amazon.

The take home message for healthful low-carbohydrate eating is as follows:

Restrict all carbohydrates to 72 utilizable grams per day.

Eat as much of any other foods as you wish

That's all there is to it. There is no need to memorize complicated formulas.

The following pages describe our low-carbohydrate nutritional program in more detail

THE BASICS

Permitted Foods:

• Fish

• Any type of animal meat (beef, pork, chicken, lamb), sausage, cold cuts

• Eggs

• Cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, plain yogurt (without sugar), cream, milk (in moderate amounts)

• All kinds of animal fats

• Salads, leaves and stems of vegetables (asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli), cucumbers, avocados, tomatoes (in moderate amounts)

• Alcoholic beverages (only unsweetened and in sensible amounts)

• Nuts (in moderate amounts)

These foods can be prepared any way you like: fried, baked, roasted, broiled, barbecued, or steamed. Small amounts of breading and sauces don’t count toward the 72 grams of carbohydrate per day. Larger amounts will have to be counted, particularly if the sauce is mostly sugar-based (beware of typical barbecue sauces and sweet-and-sour sauces).

Restricted Foods

• All carbohydrate-containing foods (breads, pastas, cereals, grains, potatoes, pastries, bagels)

• Sweet fruits

• Sweetened foods of all kinds (yoghurt, drinks, desserts, candy)

• Dried Fruits

A brilliant web site is second-opinions.co.uk.

There are many, many articles written by Barry Groves, author of: Eat Fat, Get Thin, Natural Health & Weight Loss and Trick and Treat. Most of the chapters in those books are available on the web site. Just ignore the ads that take you from his site....they just cover the costs of providing the information free to all.

Those of you concerned about what to eat when not able to exercise....start with this series of articles. The Excercise Myth: second-opinions.co.uk/t...

It is important to avoid as many processed foods as possible.

ta bigleg (fab name - primary lymphoedema by any chance?), & ta alfie for repasting your list here

i clicked on blogs & there it was - magic! hadn't realised the difference between them (still don't, if i'm honest!)

will carry on the healthy eating conversation on the blog one

aah, i think the other difference is that if someone asks or replies to a question i get a notification in my inbox, but this doesn't happen with the blogs

is that right? couldn't see any obvious 'change your notification settings' button

Yes I did post a reply, basically just giving advice about keeping fit such as joining a walking club and I recommended contacting the Ramblers Association to find a local club. Other forms of exercise are good such as swimming, cycling and dancing. It's not just that you burn off calories, exercise also makes you feel good and suppresses the appetite. And if you're busy exercising you have less time to eat! Very basic advice is eat unlimited amount of vegetables to fill you up, a lot of fruit and reasonable proportions of other foods, even cakes and biscuits are OK if just eat them occasionally. If you've got time, make lots of home made veg soup and keep it in the fridge so when you're feeling hungry have a big bowl of soup - veg has virtually no calories! Hope this helps.

I use a low carb diet to lose weight. Kippers for breakfast, salad for lunch, and stir fry for tea. All quick and easy. I don't have any problem avoiding cakes, pasta rice or even potatoes but I love fresh, crusty bread.

I agree about exercise, helps me lose weight, keep fit and feel better. I find its all too easy to think up excuses for not exercising, it's too cold, it's wet, I feel tired.etc, usually a sure sign I need some exercise.
