I'm wondering how much numbness( and occasional pain) we're supposed to tolerate in the interests of compression and keeping swelling under control?
Following liposuction for lymphoedema earlier this year, I wear class 2 tights and class 2 stockings but on the non-operated leg I have to wear the stocking all the time.
My understanding is that compression should not cause numbness but for about 3 months now the front of my foot and big toe on the non-operated leg has been completely numb and I feel it must be due to the extra compression. All the websites and information I've seen says that you shouldn't wear anything that causes numbness - but on the other hand I do need to wear this compression otherwise my leg will swell even more. What's the answer? Has anybody else faced this dilemma? My garments fit well so I cannot blame poor fitting.

Hi caroline111, what does your gp/consultant say? For me personally, pain and numbness feeling in leg and feet are because of arthritis and neuropathy. Medication, exercise and massage helps.
If you haven’t already mentioned it to gp/consultant do so as it could be numerous things causing the feeling you have and if necessary, if it is the stockings then they can adapt them.
Are you wearing flat knit custom ? What class did you wear previously on the non operated leg? I had SAPL 4 months ago on my right lymphie leg. My left leg is normal. I have been wearing flat knit custom Jobst Elvarex class 3 one leg pantyhose and a toe cap. on my normal leg it is a short length and the panty portion and short leg is a class 1. the lymphie leg is class 3. They can make different class fabric on the same garment.
