There are a number on the market in the UK and some NHS clinics use them as part of treatment. I would recommend you either wait for other site members to give you advice, or talk to your hospital team. Flowtron and LymphAssist are quite popular here, and are manufactured specifically for lymphoedema management.
Yes I have tried lymphassist and was going to buy one. Huntleigh did one on payment plan but they never got back to me once I had filled the forms in. I have borrowed one from the clinic a few times
I bought a Lympha Press plus trousers last year. For me it's no more effective than other LE self management modalities I use. But it adds variety to my 'tool box' which helps keep me motivated.
The LSN published an article about compression pumps in 2015. A bit dated but still very relevant imo:
thank you all so much for your responses. I read the article perido much appreciated
I purchased a Lymph Press Optimal Plus pump with a full body garment last year after Lymphoedema United had a 14 day no obligation trial that Compression Therapy UK were offering.
It’s a great item of equipment that I use once or twice a week to help with my lymphoedema management. The problem is it isn’t cheap which does put many people off from buying, but I was lucky to have a supportive wife who said anything that can help maintain my quality of life has to be worth it no matter of the price.
As others have commented, there are others available in the UK that do a similar job but I would definitely avoid the cheap versions that you can buy on Amazon. They don’t have overlapping chambers and also are void of pre and post treatment functions. A good pump such as the Lympha Press is made to simulate MLD techniques which is crucial when using a pump.
I personally would recommend you trialing one and if you contact Naomi at Compression Therapy UK she is very helpful and hopefully can provide you with a chance to trial one. In addition, contact Haddenham Healthcare who also have the Lymphflow Advance pump which they often loan out for a trial. I tried both and my preference was the Lympha Press as I felt it was better made and I liked the additional features such as Bluetooth connectivity.
I guess the final question is, ‘does it help to manage my lymphoedema?’. I think there are definite benefits with using a pump but you need to play around with the pressures and functions to find what works best for you. Good luck and please let me know what you decide to do.
Tactilemedical.comI use full garment works well.
I just bought a high waist one from Haddenham Healthcare after borrowing one for 2 weeks. I think it’s helping, as I went away for a few weeks and noticed a difference without it! It was quite expensive though. Suit about £1000 but pump unit £2000.
Hi. I have never used one, but I do have a Niece who lives in the USA and cares for a patient with Lymphodema, who she "wraps" 6 out of 7 days, and does indeed have such a machine. Having Lymphodema myself, I did of course ask her about results.
She told me her patient of 5 years, has had the machine about 2 years, and uses it 3 to 4 times a week and in her opinion its made no difference at all.
Apparently the Patient thinks that it has made " a little difference" . . .
I tend to believe my Niece.
I guess her patient just has to try and justify the purchase cost, and self-perception has no bounds.
But if it makes her feel any better about this awful condition, then God bless her.
Personally, my money is staying in my pocket.
