New lymphedema question

I live in West Palm Beach FL. I have lymphedema and see a therapist from time to time for MLD and advice.

I have acute thigh pain, and it seems to lead to the lymph gland between the groin and the thigh. I wonder if that gland is blocked or damaged. Should I see a vascular doctor?

Last week I tripped, and brused ribs, and realize now that the thigh went blank and the knee buckled and that is why I tripped.

Hi Marilyn

Sorry that hear of your fall. Falls are frightening, I know having them myself now and then.

As you have a MLD therapist you may want to see her and ask her what she feels in terms of lymph blockage. It may be that having a good drainage session will help in the first instance. My groin nodes don't function properly leading to back- up of lymph in my upper legs. I have primary bilateral LE.

This is a UK website so the pathway referral to specialists like a Vascular consultant are via the GP. I would think it's the same for you i.e. primary care referral. However Vascular Consultants are not necessarily experts in LE. In fact many of them have limited understanding of lymphatic diseases (I know first hand they can know nothing about it). They could however to investigate to see if you have any Vascular abnormlaities that could account for what's going on on your leg. If you have a LE clinic in S Florida perhaps you could make an appointment?

If you had a sudden collapse you should see a physician or visit the ER. Acute pain must be assessed - and your chest may require X-ray, to rule out fractures. Then go see your lymphedema therapist.

Thank you. I went to an ER and we did not talk about lymphedema. I don't know why I didn't bring it up except that I had bad chest pain. No fractures, just contusions. Talking this morning to the lymphedema therapist. Saw her a few weeks ago but didn't have the thigh pain then and so didn't discuss nodes with her. Thanks for your concern.

Marilyn: This is a fabulous site and I am sure you will receive a lot of good advice. If you are not already a member, you may want to join a USA site such as Inspire.com as well. They have a very active Lymphedema group.
