Hi All. I have been told to excercise but have difficulty being on my legs for periods of time. Does anyone think that one of those small pedal excercise bikes would help. (the one where you sit down and jusst pedal with your feet)

Absolutely - you can also use for your arms by resting it on a table. Some movement is better than no movement. Do you know anywhere near you that may run a 'seated exercise' class?

Also, can you get to a pool for movement in water? It doesn't need to involve 'swimming' - just the effects of being in water can be extremely beneficial, especially for the joints.

Hi Angie, here in Bristol there is a scheme called Energise, exercise based cancer rehab, run in conjunction with MacMillan, the instructors are level 4 qualified meaning they can support cancer patients, i've since been diagnosed with Lymphodema and again getting help and support from my instructor, may be worth finding out if there's something similiar in your area, we also have an Active Choices scheme which is a GP referral scheme, hopefully you'll find something similiar in your area, good luck x

Hi Jennymary. What a coincidence. I live in Bristol too. Not heard about Active Choices scheme but I'll get my GP to refer me. Can you point me in the right direction for the Energise Scheme please?

Hi Angie, i've just spoken to Paul, my instructor, if you go to the Bristol City Council website and search for Energise or exercise schemes, you'll find all the info you need to self refer, doing it that way though, it's best to get advice as well from a health care professional who is looking after you, ie specialist cancer nurse, you haven't put whether your on or been on a cancer journey, the instructions on what to do when you've completed your self referral form are also on the web site, good luck x

I'll do that Jennymary. Thanks. And thankfully I haven;t been on a cancer journey. I have been refered to a specialist clinic and am waiting to hear.

Hi Angie, just be aware that Energise has been set up mainly to help cancer patients with their treatments etc, therefore it may be better to go down the Active Choices route, however it turns out for you I wish you well x
