Hi, I have mild lymphedema in my left arm and left side, I need to renew my travel insurance does anyone know if this will make a difference in the cost. I had malignant melanoma which though all cleared still bumped up the price.

thanks

Hi primrose, Just purchased my annual travel insurance and they did not charge me extra for claiming my condition. Not sure though cause they wanted to know if it was malignant. the best is to ask. Most insurance ask you anyway nowadays.

Thanks can I ask what insurance company you used? at the moment I am with insure and go as they were the best I could find last year, doesn't help the cost as my husband also has medical issues - SAGA wouldn't touch us :-)

Last year 1 paid a few pounds extra have lymphodema specifically covered on my policy. They did ask where is was associated with a malignant condition which mine wasn't. I declared the condition so that I could be sure I was covered in the event of getting cellulitus when I was abroad. Unfortunately I then proceeded to get cellutitus while abroad!!! This year my lymphodema cover is much more expensive because I am still taking antiboitics as a pre caution to avoid a recurrence of the cellulitus. I expect it to drop back to a few pounds a year next year.

If you are over 50 try Age Uk. Still have to declare conditions but I found it cheaper that a few others.

Hi you could look into Travel Insurance with Channel Tunnel google it. On the Macmillan forum people have used it, as it requires a note from your GP to say that you are fit to travel. Look up the finer details too. Macmillan also has an online booklet on Travel & insurance. Wish you well. JMP.

Thank you everybody I will let you know how I get on

Yep every condition you want covered will add to the cost of the premium. Lymphoedema should not add a huge amount if you can explain you will go prepared with 2 weeks of antibiotic cover. I can't recommend a company because I have so many conditions I can only buy 2 weeks ahead of the holiday with my G P's written consent.

Long haul has been the only time I've suffered an episode of cellulitis on holiday even though they gave me a seat with plenty of room to exercise my arm etc. I am sure others will have advised about insect repellent etc.

thanks for everyone's replies it was very helpful, I rang a couple of companies but decided to stay with insure and go as it didn't increase the price adding lymphodema and got a discount for 2nd year with them.
