Eos Asthma

Hello, I just found out I have Eosinophilic Asthma and wonder what everyone is taking to treat it. And how life is living with this disease.

My Dr has prescribed me Nucala and was wondering if anyone else has taken it and how well it works.

Thanks

Hi there and welcome to the club per se. I would encourage you to to do as much research as you can as Eos is typically uncommon type of asthma. Am Currently on DUPIXENT several heavy duty inhalers and oral medication. No oral steroids at this time allergic to a lot of environmental conditions moved to Arizona for the dryer climate. I also put myself on a gluten free, etc diet. It’s a whole change in lifestyle. This forum is a great place to belong to.

I have been doing a ton of research and we have also considered moving to a dryer climate. We live in Ohio and the winters have been very bad the past few yrs and we hate it. I have been looking into doing gluten free , do you think that changing to that may have help some?

Thanks,

Hi,I'm British and live in Italy. I've been on Nucala for 6 months. So far, it has worked wonders for my asthma. I agree with the other reply however about lifestyle changes...

For me I noticed a difference from the second injection and I've recently reduced my inhalers and we'll see how it goes.

I gave up teaching in a school because I was picking up every virus which was going round and ending up really ill, on very high doses of steroids which was starting to have other worrying effects on my body... And tbh they didn't even have that much effect on my asthma in the end!

I'm also allergic to olive tree pollen (lived in UK before, didn't know about allergy because no olive trees...) our house is surrounded by thousands of olive trees!!! So ended up in hospital last May with bad asthma. Luckily we have somewhere else we can live from April til September this year.

Anyway..... If the problem was your eosinophils then Nucala should help... I've had asthma all my life but it's only the last 3 years that's it's become severe.... (I'm 46).

Lifestyle changes: what are your worst triggers?

I realised apart from viruses another major issue for me is STRESS, so I've tried to make helpful changes where I can.... It's forced me to take more care of myself and not put my needs last in our family life....

I have some backache and the last week have had bad back pain which can be a side effect of Nucala, however it's more likely due to gardening too vigorously 😂

Good luck and sending positive healing vibes your way 😻

Hi, I have been on Nucala and it gave me joint pain which I didn't put up with for too long.

really helped with the asthma though, you just have to weigh it all up in the end. good luck with it, hope it does the trick for you.

I also have had asthma my whole life but just the past few yrs has continued to get worse. I have been taking high dose steroids as well for the past 3 yrs off and on and I finally told my dr I just can’t do it anymore and he FINALLY did more testing and found out i have the EOS asthma. It felt good to finally have a diagnosis, but at the same time , it was kinda scary.😬 We live in Ohio and the weather can have 3 seasons in one day. It’s crazy! Stress has been a big factor as well. I really appreciate you giving me a little insight on this disease from your perspective. Hopefully the Nucala continues to work for you. I will receive my 1st dose next week and am hoping to have positive results as well.

Thanks
