I found some of the Buteyko suggestions help: slow abdominal breathing and avoiding hyperventilation which actually makes asthma worse by constructing the bronchi.
Asthma Free Naturally by Patrick McKeown also on YouTube had some helpful hints for me.
Since I have less chest room from scoliosis it does not address that.

I've found Buteyko methods to be quite helpful. When having breathing difficulties (for me mostly tightness and feeling like I can't get a breath fully in) the instinct is to try harder to breathe more. It's counterintuitive to respond by slowing the breath down and breathing less but it's so helpful to do that. I find breath holds to be particularly effective in providing relief when I'm struggling.
