Depersonalization and panic attacks

Having Depersonalization and fear which makes me have a panic attack and makes me feel like I'm dying I'll walk or grab things and it doesn't feel real please help me anyone else felt this way my anxiety stinks

I had that years ago when I was in high school had know idea what it was scared the crap out of me. I think it's a way your body protects itself. From what I'm not sure. It will go away. I've lived with anxiety all my life. Hang in there.

Hi,

I hate the depersonalisation bit. It scares the hell out of me too. There will be plenty of other sufferers on here too. You are not alone. It is a panic attack. I get beside myself when this happens and generally do not cope very well with this. I normally try my deep breathing exercises to try and distract myself or cry. This tends to sort mine out. Have you any coping strategies of your own? Don't forget keep telling yourself it is only panic and it cannot hurt you. Take care.

Are you getting any support from family friends the doctor?

There are copping skills you can use when you feel like this and there are some pinned posts on the side of this site you might like to have a look at, to help you cope help you feel like this.

keep posting on here and I am sue you will get others who reply and help you also.

Hey Phgdt, I get depersonalization too, I've had trouble with it since I was about 13 and starting high school.

What I find helps for me is using grounding techniques (a google search will show some examples) which is basically focusing your attention on something in the here and now and/or distracting yourself with something else. For example when I'm outside and feel like I'm 'zoning out' I'll do things like count the number of red cars I see or count all the trees. I also try to recite all the US states in my head and I have a couple of stress toys that I can grip on to. Also playing games on my phone helps sometimes too.

I hope you feel better soon, depersonalization is really scary but try to keep in mind the sensation will pass eventually.
