Hello,I had Hepatitis C as a child and was cured by taking Harvoni 5 years ago.
2 weeks ago I went to the ER with symptoms of confusion, not being able to speak or move much, and extreme nausea. They did a bunch of neurological tests and some routine blood work. Turns out my ALT was 1,148. Because the neurological work came back normal, and I have a history of hep c, they sent me home with no further testing.
After seeing my PCP she was shocked that they didn't do any further testing on my liver with having had such a high ALT. She ordered another blood test which I took about 1 week after having visited the ER and by then my ALT was down to 218.
She told me because the level dropped so much I probably am having an acute liver issue, and to go back to the ER if I get those symptoms again. She also put in a referral to GI.
Sure enough yesterday evening the symptoms came back so I went to the ER. My ALT was only 107. Turns out I was having neurological issues and received a diagnosis for that. However, my ALT mysteriously being 1,148 is still not resolved.
I am worried about what could have caused my ALT to have been so high for seemingly no reason. I am waiting for my GI referral to go through. In the meantime, does anyone have any clue what could have caused my ALT to be so temporarily high? Or any advice on what to ask the doctor?
Thank you.
