I’m a carb lover but seriously need to lose weight.
What does every one do?
Me too! Love crusty bread! But doing lchf I can say Im Really not missing it that much? I'm enjoying being able to have cheese, and butter, and cream, bacon and eggs for breakfast, it's all so yummy, and I feel much better for it
I don’t know how to start really 😞
Follow all the advice on here, read the links that admin send you, if you fancy doing lchf check out diet doctor site lots of information on there about how to get started, just take one day at a time, and keep your goal in mind, celebrate small victories!! And keep checking in on this forum
😊😊
I think once you have done lchf for a while, you don't miss carbs and sugar that much. Yes it's hard at first but if you persevere your taste for them will diminish. I was the worst for eating lots of sweets, puddings, cakes etc, now I don't eat them much at all, they seem too sweet now! When I first started I made fat bombs to help with sweets cravings but after a while I stopped eating those too. I started this way of eating in March, and this week I have achieved my goal weight, having lost 2st 2lbs. I will not go back to my previous way of eating, I now just need to maintain. I wish you much success and hope this little story has helped. You can do this!! X
Thank you for that I just have to start .
So tomorrow morning have two boiled eggs for breakfast and a cup of coffee with cream and your off! xx
Yeah thank you 😊
That's the thing. Just concentrate on meat and veg for your main meal, then things like egg based dishes, bacon,, cheese, olives, nuts. There are lots of recipes and meal ideas on the various websites. I think you're very brave starting just before Christmas. 😊🎅🎄🎅🎄
When I started I kept a note of everything I ate - quantities and macros (how much carb fat and protein). I aimed for max 30 carbs a day and lots of fat (helped by always cooking with extra virgin olive oil!) . I also ate (and still do) around 60 - 70g of protein tho there are mixed views on how much you should have.
Keeping a record worked for me even if it was a drag weighing stuff at first, but often meals were pretty much the same as I'd had before so it soon got easier - and e.g. I could tell what a 50g chunk of cheese looked like!
I steadily lost weight til reached 4 stone / 25kg by January (from July) and by then I'd upped the carbs tho still an average of around 70. I'm so used to eating this way I can't imagine going back - and weight has stayed off despite having a few beers if I feel like it (probably helped by the fact that I walk a lot too).
If you don't fancy going "cold turkey" then start with banishing obvious junk (including anything which says it's "diet" or low fat - likely full of rubbish to compensate for not being real food). If you can't face no bread spuds pasta rice be mindful of having smallest portions you can cope with ... but honestly you'll be surprised at how soon you don't miss them if you cut them totally - as someone said, look at dietdoctor.com and food ideas here for alternatives.
Best of luck and keep coming here for support (more expert and experienced than mine! )
Excellent advice above, Spool .
Carb addiction is like any other addiction. Some people can "cut down slowly" (for example by removing obvious junk) but for the vast majority, you have to just go through the pain barrier and come out the other side.
The good news is that breaking a carb addiction really isn't that hard, and once it's gone it's gone forever. When you've done LCHF for a while, you'll find that you can enjoy carbs for what they are, now and then, and not feel the urge to go all Cookie Monster.
If you're afraid of "keto flu", rest assured that it is nothing like flu. You feel a bit groggy for a couple of days - rather like the feeling you get when you have a cold coming on, or like a mild hangover. For a few people it can last a week or so. But basically that's it. You're not going to be confined to bed shivering and unable to move - that's just silly nonsense from dieticians protecting their turf.
If you just can't think what to put on your plate in place of carbs, the answer is "more of everything else". More veg, mostly, but feel free to add anything else non-starchy, and make sure to always have some source of fat: meat, cheese, butter, cream, oil (avoid sunflower/corn/canola oils). And as mentioned have a look at dietdoctor.com for inspiration - they have a lot of recipes there.
Let us know how you get on!
My advice is to focus on eating plenty of keto friendly foods each day. Quickly you will have appetite control. This is the big bonus of LCHF. Dont fuss too much over Christmas though. Fill up on plenty of festive meats, cheeses, some nuts and green vegetables first before making decisions about dessert options. It's a way of life and achievable if the end goal is important enough. One day at a time.
