First post on here, and after feeling so poorly over the years and eating too much sugar, I finally had a light bulb moment and gave my head a good wobble, and thought I think I’m making myself worse continuously eating crap, I know it’s taken me years, I’m 63 years old 15 stone so I’ve been on this type of healthy eating for 9 days, and have lost 6 pounds already, I’m amazed and feeling fantastic, I’m walking not that far but couple miles daily, and drinking now one and half litres of water, really interested in knowing how much weight others have lost in first few days and how they are doing as they continue, I know it’s only water I’ve lost but it’s spurred me on to try and lose 3 half stone as I’m 5 ft 7 half

Low carb high fat
Welcome.
I lost 3 stone a year ago, and have kept it off. I combined some low calorie and fasting. I have kept it off for nearly a year, and I don't see anything changing. Indeed, I am back at around 65kg now, so won't be surprised if I slowly lose a few more. I'm just a few years younger than you.

Some of that 6lb will be water, but some will be fat. All the rest you lose will be fat, as you will have shed most of the water weight by now.
I think you'll find the starchy foods you've listed { bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, etc} aren't compatible with a low carb lifestyle!
Here's a snapshot from the Diet Doctor website:
Wow 11kilos in just under 11 wks 😱
Welcome to the group RubyWoo. Well done for "giving your head a good wobble". I've never heard that phrase before, but I think I'm going to steal it for future use.
I lost about 2 and a half stone. How long it took is hard to say. All I know is, I used to weigh 85-86kg, and I now weigh 68-69kg. I used to look like Jeremy Clarkson's beach photos, and now I look more like Tom Hiddleston's. I'm pretty sure I lost 80% of that excess flab in the first year, and the rest of it disappeared slowly, slowly.
The best part about LCHF is that it really requires no effort at all. It works by adjusting your appetite, so you simply stop wanting the things that make you fat (or, at least, you stop wanting them all the time). I would not recommend reintroducing large amounts of carbs once you've got to your goal weight; some people can get away with that, but most of us can't. The average person ends up consuming somewhere in the 50-100g/day range. However that does give you enough leeway for the occasional pizza or burger binge (should you ever feel the need - you most likely won't).
In short, you can expect to get your life back. You'll be in control again, instead of just doing whatever your amygdala tells you to do.
I think most of us here are over 50, so you're in good company.
Just curious how you ended up taking this particular leap of faith? A lot of us got to this point as a last resort and wondered why we hadn't done it earlier.
I just sat on the sofa and thought about what I was doing to my body to be honest my mum passed away in front of me and it really shook me, it was expected! She was insulin dept type 1 diabetic this was 18 years ago, and from that day really I started eating excess sugary rubbish to make me feel better of cause it did momentarily but I never stopped every day I did it so a very long time, I’m very surprised I’m not diabetic ! My health obv went down and although I knew it was wrong I couldn’t stop, it was only 9 days ago, I thought what are you doing to yourself gave myself a good head wobble so really you can say a light bulb moment, I was never depressed or anxious and I thought I’ve got nothing to lose except 3.7 stone of blubber and here I am 6 pounds lighter even though it’s water I understand that, it’s given me the push and I feel great, I’m so excited now at every meal time as to what I can eat, I’m so shocked that I’m not hungry between meals, and I really enjoy eating now and drinking water 😂 I’m a non smoker and drinker! So happy I found this lovely group, I’m just slowly learning what I can eat and what I can’t, and the best thing is which I cannot believe I’m not craving choc cakes ice cream, I’m also on steriods have been for several years!
You are going to do well. If your metabolism has withstood 18 years of sugary rubbish without crossing over the threshold of diabetes, and after 9 days you have killed your craving for sugar, I really can't see how you can fail.
Exactly what my husband said to me, he cannot believe the change in the way I’m approaching eating now, and the fact everyone can eat choc cakes etc in front of me and I’m not battering an eyelid, I can’t believe it either, but it’s the good feeling I have now that I didn’t even think was possibly as no bloating and that for me is amazing, looking forward to each day and giving myself small half stone targets to reach and I will buy myself something nice ( not Food ) as I reach them, trying to walk more too thanks subtle badger everyone on this forum is so lovely
I'm 71 year old male, 5'9". Three years ago I was just under 15 stone and when I adopted keto, I went down to 11st 11lbs quickly (sorry can't remember how long, but it was quick). Then, without changing anything I ate, I stuck at 11st 11lbs which is I would say my natural frame and weight. The belt I wear I bought when I was 30. Wow do I feel better in every way. I can jog now, I couldn't do that when I was 50 and 15st!
Hope it goes well for you, I've met so many people who've had great success. You can tell who they are by what they eat.

That’s wonderful cyrtis, I’m beginning to believe you are what you eat
Good morning Eternity6 and welcome. I also had that lightbulb moment, the realisation that whatever it was that I was eating was making me ill, physically and mentally. It was people hear that made me realise that LCHF and TMAD a for of intermittent fasting which only introduced later would combine to restore my health, give me a better quality life, oh and I forgot help me lose weight. A year ago I ballooned to 24 stone me. I started my journey hear at something over 22 stone. As of this morning since sometime around November I have lost 30lb, close to 10% of my body weight. I like you am 63 and weight loss for me now is slower that it has been in the past, but for the first time in my entire life I feel that I am in control and that food no longer controls me. I have a long way to go but I am in it for the long haul and I am here to n HU to get the support and hopefully support others to achieve the same if I can. Go girl you can do it and well done on that first 6lb. 👍 Dave
Thanks very much Dave, wow you are doing well, I think sometimes over eating and bingeing as I certainly was just takes over your life and I truly believe that most of the time something triggers you to do this , I wish you well in your journey, and I know what you mean even on my very tiny weight loss food isn’t controlling me, I feel totally in control it’s just amazing to feel like this! I don’t have regrets so I’m not going to say I wish I did it sooner, I’m just looking forward now and not backwards and enjoying every day , I wish you well
What a great outlook and absolutely the way to go Eternity6 . Thank you and please give me a shout if there is anything that another fellow recovering yo-yo dieter can do to help, at any time. Good luck to you on the journey ahead x
