I have been remission for ITP for 2 years with normal platelet count of 240 to 300. I take no medicine. Can it still come back?

I had my first bout of ITP 4 years ago with platets at 1. It took a month to restore normal platelets. I had to have two rounds of IVig and took Promacta. Once my platets returned to nomal I stopped all medication. One and a half years later it mysteriously returned and my platets were at 1. That only required one round of IVig and promacta. Within a week my platets returned to nor mal. I have not had an issue for 2 years without medication. Am I out of the woods? My hematologists can not answer that question. She advises that I take no vaccines....flu, covid, etc etc.

Yes sadly Joe it can come back at any time. It is as well to get a blood test if you get any symptoms returning like bruising, gum bleeds, fatigue , any bleeding at all. So glad to hear that you are in remission at this time and long may it continue, but sadly ITP can return. Best wishes to you.

Thanks Anthony. Yes when my gums started bleeding the second time around I got a blood test and ended up in the emergency room with platelets at 1. I am at 26 months and counting. My hemotoligist said I should not get any vaccines which is a little scary since I am 70 and a bad bout of Covid or the Flu could hospitalize me as well. Thanks for the best wishes same to you
