Tamiflu - WORKING!!!!! :) :)

ITP_September_2014 profile image

I have been using nplate for ITP for 2 years, giving myself weekly injections.

I was sick with the flu last week. This made my numbers drop even with my weekly injection of nplate to 36,000. I took Tamiflu for 5 days to kick the flu and exactly a week later my count went from 36,000 to 280,000. I didn't take my nplate shot this week to see what would happen. Apparently it last longer than a week. I'll know more by next Monday. stay TUNED!!!!!

I used to self inject with NPlate until I changed my medication a year ago. At first I had to attend the hospital on a weekly basis and it was a chore, sometimes they didn’t even have any NPlate to inject as it hadn't arrived from the pharmacy! After about a year I asked about self injecting and was told there was to be a hospital board meeting to discuss the option. After about a further 3 months I was told I was one of 2 or 3 ITP patients selected to be taught how to self inject. It wasn’t just a case of sticking a needle in myself, I had to be taught how to assemble the components in the pack of NPlate to make up the syringe and it’s contents. After a further month of doing this under supervision in the hospital I was eventually told to start doing it at home. I was given 4 weeks supply of NPlate which had to be stored in the fridge and I would get more supplies when I went for monthly check ups. It was far more convenient. I live in Middlesbrough and I know not many hospital authorities allow patients to self inject, but if I were you I would push to be allowed to do it. Good luck!

I live in New York City. What's the point of self injection if you have to go to the hospital anyway? I had in home care and my nurse showed me how to mix nplate. He eventually felt comfortable letting me do it on my own.

tamiflu is a pill. This could work better and longer than nplate. I'd ask your dr about this.

Hi ,yes thanks. The reason I inject myself in the hospital, is so that they know I willed prepared to do it at home. It's the cost . That's why they won't let me do it at home . But I am very interested in the tablet Tamiflu. Is it available in the UK. Many thanks Cx
