I had my spleen taken out and it did not make any difference. I now have to take penicillin every day to counter the effects of not having a spleen. Be careful and make sure you need to have the operation before going down that path. There are many other things you can try before having a splenectomy.

Hello Fatah,

I agree with NickyD. removal of the spleen should be the very last resort where everything else failed. I am intrigued by the fact that you have IVIG every month. If you do not, how low do your platelets drop to? I was diagnosed in 2007 and for the last 10 years, I have had low counts, often in single figures. Today it is 20; my haematologist will not intervene unless I bruise badly or bleed.

Splenectomy is no longer considered an option by most haematologists particularly with Revolade, Eltrombopag and so on. Speak with your haematologist again.

Good Luck!
