Hi. Sorry to read about your daughter. Firstly, do not panic. A count of 10000 is not devastating, low yes but providing she does not bleed, it is one she can live with even though she may bruise. I have lived with a count of 10000 for over 20 years and take no medication.

Secondly, infants who develop ITP can often recover completely without medication. It can just happen for no apparent reason. It could just be down to the body developing and the immune system taking longer. However if this is not the case, I would seek a second opinion from a specialist in ITP. If you look at the ITP website, there are centres listed around the UK where there are specialists in ITP located and at which hospital.

There are numerous medications available for ITP. It is finding the right one for the patient and that can take time. Be wary of taking any advice from any non medical professional however convincing their arguement.

If you do not live in the UK, then contact the ITP support Association who may be able to recommend a specialist who will liaise with your doctor and provide assistance.

ITP is a rare condition and whilst all haematologists will have read about this during their training, they may not be fully aware of the treatments and diagnosis methods available - hence the second opinion with a specialist in ITP. After all, you cannot expect them to be experts in everything medical. Keep us posted. ABOVE ALL, DO NOT WORRY OR PANIC. Dr James George of Oklahoma said it is worse for the parents than the patient and I am sure he is right.

Give her lots of green vegetables,beetroot/apple/carrot juice, some nuts.I know there is only so much an 8year old can eat,but a healthy diet will improve her immunity. My heart bleeds for you, take care and all the very best.Try homeopathic as well,no harm.

547, no doctor can say she will be cured at the age of 12. There is no cure as such only the body will cure it if it has the ability to do so. I've had ITP since I was three years old, I had a my spleen removed when I was 4, it wasn't a cure as I still have relapses. I was free from symptoms for twenty years then when I was 25 years old I relapsed. I have had remissions and the odd relapse when my body has to fight strong viruses. Yes, some do completely cure and never have problems again but it's the body that does it and there is no guarantee that it will never come back. Keep trying things, her body will find a way to cope. Best of luck
