I live in india. Could anyone help me out How much Cost is involved for indium-labelled platelet test in Barts/Royal hospital in UK and is medical visa provided by hospital.

My humble request is that we want to do indium-labelled platelet test from which we can identify whether spleen or liver causing ITP. I live in India (Mumbai) where this test is not available. Hence requested to guide how we can conduct this test on UK. Below are the queries in a nutshell.

a. Is medical visa is provided by Bartholomew's Hospital & The Royal London Hospital for conducting this test.

b. How much cost is involved for indium-labelled platelet scan (approx)

c. How much cost is involved for Medical visa. (patient and one relative) (approx)

d: How long we require to stay in UK.

Pls help us to save my wife. Anticipating your valuable response.

I am not sure of the details but would suggest looking at the itpsupport.org.uk website and maybe contacting them with the questions. I had it done when I lived in the UK and it was very helpful.85% of my platelets were destroyed in my spllen.I have not had a spleenectomy. Good luck.

Hello Nasar, before you undertake such a potentially expensive trip to the UK, please ask your haematologist in India about the value of an Indium test. I am told that whilst the test can indeed identify which organ is responsible for the destruction of your platelets, it is not a 100% reliable. Please do not be alarmed but simply seek clarification from a medical expert before you travel.

Yes Rafiq, actually this test is not advised by my hematologist as expensive test and also not available in India, but almost all medication fails treat ITP hence doctor advised to do splenectomy as a last resort. He has given a chances of 60 to 80 % of success rate in this case. Since beginning a very experienced doctor from lilavati hospital handling this case when ITP diagnosed.

This indium test i wanted to do for my wife to satisfy my heart than to regret afterwards...

Dear nasar, don't worry much itp is manageable easy until you knw Wat is it exactly.

I have 2 suggestions for you.

1 ) Take a second opinion with other haematologist in bangalore columbiasia hospital. Dr Satish.

2 ) Instead of going to UK take an advice from Elizabeth hospital in Singapore it's not as expensive as UK.

Does Elizabeth hospital in Singapore offer indium test. I did not think this was available yet outside few places in the UK.

Yes, the test is available mainly in UK France and spain as far as I know.

It is worth having. It showed that my platelets are destroyed in the liver so a splenectomy would be no use. Good luck.
