Hi, I've been in remission for a few months now but have now got sore throat, lost my voice and dry wracking cough along with sore ears.

This was the problem I had when I was first diagnosed with ITP. I'm now worried it could come back but as I also have an underactive thyroid (diagnosed as the ITP was going into remission!! Due to antibodies) I feel I'm never away from doctor. I don't want to be seen as a hypochondriac but not sure if I should let this run its course or make an appointment?

If you are unsure whether to see your doctor you could see your own pharmacist, who should have an up to date record of your medication and should be aware of the ITP (let them know if you have not already done so), so can advise you appropriately.

With chronic stable ITP most of us look for tell tale signs that our platelets are low, for me it is lots of bruising, petechiae, bleeding from the gums, extreme fatigue and low mood. If you are concerned you can always ask your doctor for an extra blood test.

Many of us with chronic stable ITP lead very normal lives and getting a cold/cough does not trigger an episode of very low platelets. hope that's a help x x

Thank you Janey - I will speak to pharmacist. I have noticed a couple of small bruises similar to the kind I had when the ITP was active (after I wrote my question). For me the main sign I had was small bruises and petechia. Hopefully it won't come to anything. Always feel fatigued anyway due to hypothyroidism so no difference there! Thank you again though for taking time to reply.

Hi, I was the same had lost my voice when I was diagnosed with ITP and I still lose it now, a year and a half later. It's the first thing to go when I have a cough or cold, and my GP has said not to worry, again it"s about knowing your own body.

Good luck with it all and if you're family is like mine, they love the peace xx
