My daughter has a platelet count of arround 20. She has been invited to a snow tubing party. They wear helmets and have to wear long sleeves, but I'm not sure if it would be safe for her to do it. Do you think it would be a good idea?

Snow tubing and ITP
My count is around 20 at best. I'm 37 and took my children to the chill factore for snow tubing. Only one tube goes down at once so nobody can bump into you but like anything there is always a risk I suppose. I don't bruise much anymore and don't suffer with bleeds. although careful My parents always let me have a go at everything. (Sometimes modified to make it safer) they have staff at the top who do push the tubes down and sometimes spin them so maybe have a word and ask that they let her slide down on her own. Obviously I'm not a doctor and don't know if she has bleeds regularly so can only speak from my experiences. If she gets to go I hope she has a great time. X
this is such a subjective question, its comes down to safety vs. social here. from what you describe it sounds like there is ample safety measures and I would say let her go its very important. but if at all possible either contact the place before hand, make sure they know that when it comes to her if any thing happens she must be treated differently. it would be better for you to join her just for the simple reason that a hard bump a wipe out can happen and she will need to have some one their that will have her best interest at mind. I am 38, I have counts that range from 30k to 4k. I drive my race car at the track all most once a week. but I make sure to have a family member or good friend to come with me just in case god forbid something happens. I hope this helps and that you both have a blast at the party.
