Snow tubing and ITP

My daughter has a platelet count of arround 20. She has been invited to a snow tubing party. They wear helmets and have to wear long sleeves, but I'm not sure if it would be safe for her to do it. Do you think it would be a good idea?

Hi I would not. I know she will be disappointed, but is it worth the risk? You could ask your Consultant/ doctor. I find when mine are that low i bruise and end up with lumps.

I hope I have not upset you, but as a parent myself if it was my child i would not let them.

As long as she is careful and does not do anything silly I am sure she will be fine.  How old is she? My Son was 12 when he was first diagnosed with the lurgy 😂 and I did not stop him from taking part in most things but drummed it into him that he was to be responsible and not do anything stupid.  I presume there will be a responsible adult with them, I understand your worry as a parent, is it not possible that maybe you could go along too, explain to the other parent or organiser, I am sure they would understand your concern.  The thing is once diagnosed with ITP it never really goes away but lies dormant, my Son went into remission 6 months after he was diagnosed at 12 then it reappeared at 18, then now again at 29 so although we would like to wrap them in cotton wool we can't we have got to allow them to live their lives and ENJOY it. 😘😘
