Hi. Well done for setting this up. It is such a shame that there are not similar groups set up for each group of ICU'. Ive been following the other group but not actually zoomed in on any of the meetings yet.
I am a sibling of someone who was put into an induced comaci and whose organs started to fail.
Unfortunately he has come out of the coma and is now a quadraplegic. The family cannot find anyone else who has been in the ICU with a breathing issue who was put into an induced coma and has unfortunately ended up with a huge life change.
He was admitted to ICU on 7th October 2019. He was intubated during the early hours of the 7th Oct.
When he was brought round he was as describes.
In January 2020 he was sent to a different hospital, it appears just for weaning off the ventilator.
He had some episodes in that hospital where there was concern for his heart.
When that was ok they kept trying to wean him.
There was not a package of ohtsio or psychological input bearing in mind the.hugely life changing situation. He was shipped out to a place with neurological rehabilitation home. Which in fact was not actually rehabilitating
g.. it was clear the individual was being budgeted with minimal support. There was.lomited physii. There was SALT. And eventually psychological assessment which could not be completely carried out as the ones with use of hands could not be done dur to non mobility if hands. So the tort of covud and no visits allowed blanket ban by the home and family never got to see the individuals bedroom.
To cut a vert long story short. Once he was discharged to the care home....
There was no follow up from ICU or consultants.
It was apparent that sensory wise there is some hearing loss somee vision loss to add to matters
So Oct 2019 to june 2020 hospital then to this home.
Now the individusl is in anothet home has had some physio.
One can shrug the shoulders. Can shake the head from sude to side and there is slight movement in the fingers. But.they cannot.move oror function.
We are.just wondering if anyone in your group has ad knowledge of this being a quadriplegic happening. If so. What support they are getting.
