Mom COVID19 complications

Hi, my mom (57 years) was hospitalized on April 13th, put on a ventilator on April18th and suffered a pneumothorax followed by a cardiac arrest. She was brought back with two cycles.

She has been on ventilator for 13 days now and yesterday (day 12) she has had her tracheostomy done and she’s stable now and off sedation. Her lungs are recovering well but due to the cardiac arrest the doctor don’t know if there’s any brain damage.

[UPDATE]Today the doctors told us she has a brain bleed and there’s no much they can do but to monitor and wait to resolve itself. It was on one part of her brain.

I don’t really know what I’m asking but maybe someone that went through something similar? I’m really trying not to run out of hope.

I have no experience of this but didn't want to leave you without a reply. I would say that you should always try your best to remain hopeful and remember to look after yourself too.

Hopefully someone else can provide some more specific information for you xx

My brother suffered brain bleeds in ICU three years ago. The bleeds did resolve so please remain hopeful.

Hi Isanadini. Firstly I would like to give you a big virtual hug.I had a cardiac arrest following a heart attack in march 2020. I was sedated and on a vent for 5 days. I suffered a bleed on the brain and when I was fully conscious it was noticed that I had no movement in my left arm. Thankfully a year later I have regained about 85% use of my arm which is great. I have no cognitive problems. Of course every case is different as we all know. Be strong and don't give up hope. Please look after yourself. Please feel free to message me anytime if you feel it will help. Take care Beyah xx

Hi I am so sorry about what your mum and you are going through. Hold on to hope and it helps to ask the professionals questions regarding your concerns or fears. My sister contracted coronavirus in late February 2021 and was admitted to ICU and on a ventilator for 50 days. She did not have a bleed on the brain but there have been so many complications and setbacks. Truly a rollercoaster experience and the most anxious I have ever felt in my life. Praying, hope and the support of family and friends has helped enormously.

One of the most helpful sources of support for me personally and in understanding what was going on was joining the zoom meetings on Tuesdays run by ICUsteps Chester for relatives. The group members have been so welcoming, empathetic and provided invaluable information based on their knowledge and experience. I could not have coped with out their support. Please have a look at the support group section.

I hope that your mum continues to improve and that you have the support you need. Take care 🙏🏼🤗

My dad was on a vent and trach for 1 month. When he came off they saw evidence of stroke. He’s been 2 months in a rehab facility now and doing well. He’s in good spirits and now walking with a walker. His right side was affected, but he’s slowly gaining back movement in his right arm
