Mom went to hospital with low bp and extreme weakness Saturday afternoon. She had sepsis. She was put on ventilator during the night after sedating her. They took her off sedation Friday. She was sedated for 4.5-5 days. Doctors are saying shes hardly responsive (today more then yesterday). She was sedated sunday-friday.. they are saying she should be coming out of it by now. She reacts to pain (pressing on finger) but nothing else. I am very worried. They did brain ct and it was normal. They will do mri now.
How long did it take for you guys to see cognitive function after sedation.

11 days to wake from 57 day coma. Everyone responds differently to the sedative drugs & different drugs effect different people differently 😀. God that’s a mouthful.
Have a look at ICUsteps critical care guide - link attached.
Hi Sidra89 - I’ve put the same question up recently. My dad has been on a ventilator for 5 weeks now and off sedation for over a week and still not responsive. A lot of people have replied to me with amazing advice, it could take a while for all the drugs to come out of the system. Let’s all stay hopeful! Xx
So i just got off the phone with her oncologist. He is saying she’s responding to pain but shes not responding to anything else.. ct scan showed no abnormalities and now they will do mri. She was sedated sunday-friday.. they are saying she should be coming out of it by now
He had eye flicker last week and then they sedated him again for his trach on Friday. Then from Saturday they put him back on dialysis to flush out any sedation he may have and on Sunday (yesterday) they said he opened his eyes. We’re now just waiting to see how the next few days go. This waiting game is torture.
From all the advice people have sent me it can take a while. So let’s all have hope xxx
So my mom was taken off sedation on Friday.. she was sedated starting last Sunday so 5-6 days in total. This Sunday she was flinching, today she opened her eyes but not following yet.
I was the same as your mum weak and low bp sepsis and in a coma for 5 days I took roughly 4 days to become anything close to normal I was delirious and had little to no awareness of where I was. At times though I was lucid enough to have a conversation. In total it took 2 weeks (from going into hospital) before I have any memories that I know are real. Hope this gives you some hope and I hope your mother pulls through soon.
I started reacting the day after being taken off sedation but things like that can change from person to person I was lucky because I'm young and fairly fit.
My brother in law took 8 days to wake up after sedation , 2 whole weeks to start talking, and a whole moth before he was able to move his body. It takes a while....
Mine was immediate I could hear what was going on throughout my induced slumber woke up with my hands crossed on my chest flipping off my wife and all the medical staff. Everyone is different I was only 42 at the time of my incident. Remain positive! Tell her anything you may want her to know there’s chance she’s gonna heat it. Prayers for you and your family
