Neuropathy or myopathy is my guess.

They say that it takes 10 x your stay in hospital for the nerves to regenerate. I was in hospital for more than 3 months and so far I have been out a year. I believe I have neuropathy. For me it means my legs are numb. I don’t get pins and needles rather sharp pricks. I have to be careful with my feet because more often than not I don’t know I have hurt them until I see the 🩸 This also effects my balance.

If that is whatever amount of days x 10 then my nerves should be long ago regenerated, but they definitely do not appear to be. And if they did regenerate they regenerated incorrectly because l still have issues with my nerves causing strange sensations, numbness, foot dropping sideways floppy when resting and throwing out when walking. My feet tangle and cause me to stumble. I have a gait and whole body shaking. Walking distances is exhausting and involves complete concentration over my legs, knees, ankles, feet, otherwise they do what they want and l will trip up and fall. I can run but not for long and it is more like galloping. Can cycle without issue even though my balance is still slightly off.

Hi Lilly l was in an induced coma just a little over three years ago now. It still only feels like just maybe 9 months ago. I have strange sensations in my legs and feet ever since my coma. It was much worse initially but has remained and l do now have walking issues and a gait. I walk like l'm drunk or dizzy and can't feel my feet properly so they tangle up and make me stumble a lot, plus my knees give way. I do a lot of cycling without an issue and that really helps. Have also had nerve conduction studies done and my nerves reacted as they should despite my constant shaking and very apparent gait. Though after all that electricity went through me it actually helped with the constant shaking and twitching temporarily it felt like my body needed that electrical blast. I have always strange sensation in my legs and feet and can never accurately describe the sensation/feeling. It is distracting for me. Have you had nerve conduction studies done and do you see a neurologist? If not ask to be referred to one. You may also need some physio if you've not had any or only had a little. x

That’s interesting what you say about cycling. I haven’t cycled for years but thought about restarting. Decided against it because of my balance but now will have to rethink

Definitely wear a cycling helmet if you decide to give it a try. And don't give up after a few failed attempts. The freedom of cycling and weight off feet, legs l find relieving and exhilarating. I practiced cycling again up and down the empty lane of nearby my parents house and on deserted carparks at night until finally confident enough to go back on the road. Maybe have someone with you when you get back on the bike to help steady you. I was a regular cyclist before l fell ill and wound up being placed in an induced coma to try save my life. I wasn't expected to survive but did and surprised the drs/nurses by doing so. When l first got back on a bike it was impossible for me to cycle, my feet/legs wouldn't work and weighing only 4 stone with massive muscle wastage l couldn't even peddle, but persistent "had no choice as l don't drive" it was at first like learning to ride a bike all over again. It took time "months" but really helped my balance and to build my muscles back up. I'm not a zippy super fast cyclist anymore and it does exhaust me, but in a good "achievement" way. Prior to getting on my bike again my balance was completely off l'd had to learn to walk again and relearn other things. Thankfully all that didn't take me more than a year. Whatever you do though don't go on the road immediately without much practice first. I'm brittle asthmatic so cycling also help keep my lungs well exercised and airways open. I've been out on my bike today and now l'm crashed out on my sofa but happy and satisfied with myself. x

I just read in your profile about all that has happened to you health wise. Maybe speak with your gp/doctor/cardiologist/rheumatologist before getting back on your bike don't want you to break your hip or have a massive flare up of one of your ailments and become very poorly, but if you feel well and healthy enough within yourself no reason why you can't try, but definitely speak to doctor/gp/etc first. Especially if you are on any blood thinners. x
