Dad diagnose with COVID-19- suffered from pneumonia, cardiac and kidney failure

Princessa_Chummy29 profile image

I found this website through one of my dads doctors.

My dad was sent to the hospital on 25 December, he was still fine until on the 26 dec, he suffered from cardiac arrest and led his kidney to fail.

He is now in ICU for 12 days and under sedated coma with ventilator tube. They could not do a tracheostomy due to his body is too weak to proceed with this procedure.

He’s now under observation and they want his oxygen level required to remain at 50% to proceed with tracheostomy.

My mum is becoming emotionally unstable due to what happened to my dad as he never were sick. Reading your posts makes me feel I am not alone and we are not the only one in this post.

If someone experience the same as us and their relative recover. Please let me know the procedure taken.

😊- let’s fight together

Although not Covid as the initial culprit - I recovered from the same sort of place as your father - (just read my profile bio). Hopefully your father will stabilise soon. Best wishes.

Hi

I was in ICU with covid in April. I was on a vent for 9 days, which included my oxygen levels being at 25% and a failed extubation on day 5- I was not able to stay off the vent and went back on. In total, 16 days in hospital.

I know there are no promises and you , your Mum and your family must be distraught. However, there are lots of people like your dad, me and Sepsur that recover.

Every day is a rollercoaster, however the great advantage now is the hospitals better understand how to treat covid. All you can do right now is support one another as best you can, sleep when you can, keep healthy and let the experts do their work.

very best wishes to you all, pete. Pls feel free to message me on this site if I you think it is helpful.

My dad had covid back in March , took him three weeks before he was well enough for a tracheotomy. He was very up and down for the first five weeks but turned a corner and after 73 days ventilated made it home a few stone lighter and weaker . Every day there’s even a tiny bit of improvement take it as a positive that’s what kept me going . Xx

Hi there! So sorry to read of your Dad’s current predicament.

Please try to take some heart from my story (see my old posts). I can only hope and pray with more knowledge and medicines now in place, your Dad will improve in due course.

PM me if you have any specific queries.

Stay strong for your mum.

These are no doubt the toughest times of your life.

Like sepsur I was in before covid with swine flu in 2016. Cardiac arrest, pneumonia, acute kidney injury, multiple organ failure, dialysis, too ill for transfer to ECMO. 14 days on life support, followed by 21 days on renal ward to get my kidneys working again, I was discharged. I then had about 8 weeks in bed at home as I struggled to adjust and walk, wash, dress again, but physically I was back at work full time 8 months after CA. It is a LONG journey measured in hours, then days, then weeks months years, but please know your dad is in absolutely the most experienced hands.

I am also obese so that was a factor in my prognosis as well, but am here. Best thing you can do is support your mum. Be her strength x
