Recovering

I just want to thank you all for sharing your stories and helping my family and I thru some really scary times. My dad did really well at the LTACH, he was weaned off the ventilator and had the tracheostomy taken out. He is now doing inpatient rehab, he gets out of breath easily but we are told it’s normal and will get better. He’s in really good spirits and working really hard on his recovery.

Good for him. He just has to stick to the plan and he will improve. It takes muck longer than any of us would want that’s for sure. It’s very easy to get disheartened so your job will be to encourage him and tell him how well he is doing. Let us know how he gets on.

It's been so good to read your post this morning Jbujanda82. It took me right back to that immense feeling of relief that I got when my husband moved onto the rehab ward. For me it felt like the beginning of the end of the nightmare. However, for my husband it was the start of even more effort & hard work! So worth it though. Eight months on and we're having good days. I wish you all well for the coming months.

Yes, I agree, it’s the start of a different trudge - differently difficult, challenging mentally, physically & emotionally for everyone.
