pain after sepsis: 18 months ago i had sepsis shock... - ICUsteps
pain after sepsis
What you describe sounds like peripheral Neuropathy - which is common legacy of ICU. I got my mineral & vitamin levels checked after ICU - I was deficient in magnesium & vit d - both these deficiencies exacerbated symptoms of neuropathy- mine has diminished over time BUT some do not get full sensation again.
Have a look at post sepsis syndrome too.
I guess the confusing thing at present is that the world is caught up with Covid and it’s legacies- the truth is that whilst Covid rehab has some very specific nasties - all critical care has some long term legacies. Fatigue, muscle waste, aching joints, loss of flexibility & mobility, neuropathy, brain fog etc etc
I found light exercise & gentle yoga alleviated much of the intensity of these nasty bedfellows.
On top of what Sepsur has said about vitamins another problem can be due to muscle loss. Your muscles don’t just work to move your body, they also protect your nerves from being compressed when you sit down on a firm surface. When you first leave hospital you don’t have the energy to move around a lot so you can be sitting down for long periods. If this is contributing then standing and walking around every hour will help.
