Hi All

We got the news from hospital today that Mom procedure wouldn’t be perform as it’s not in their hospital policy and they will make the procedure with Administrators of the hospital.

I’m failed to understand although my mom had 3 consecutive test of VOVID negative still they are no feeling safe to perform.

We are devastated

Kindly please share any one experience with them of their loved once on ventilator support from mouth that long. My mom been on this support from last 7 weeks her lungs still not mature enough to take out the tube.

I’m so sorry to hear this, what is their reason? I was told they wouldn’t do it for my husband until his oxygen requirement was 40% or below consistently. Your Mom can still be weaned with the mount tube, it just may take longer as they generally can’t completely remove the sedation to push her to do more. Can you write to your health board to give examples of what is done elsewhere? X

Hi Avaco

Have you asked why because it happened to my husband because he was so weak. They finally did it when he was much better. What about her lung is it gettng better? How bad is her lung damaged? What percentage of oxygen is she on? If they feel it is not safe they won't do it. Keep strong everything goes well with time.

Hi thanks all for you reply

In my Mom case she is the first longest covid patient so it’s so new for them they don’t have policy for Trach established in this hospital in Canada. They are making the policy, will do meetings with the admin then decide how to perform the procedure despite of the fact she is now COVID negative. I’m helpless and frustrated.

Fingers crossed - they make a decision- health authorities sometimes make no sense.

For example :

I reacted to novel leukaemia meds 6am yesterday - resulting in me bashing the back of my head in and needing staples. This is the same hospital I spent 3 months in ICU because, to start with, I caught avian flu. I have been shielding since 16/3/20 - I’ve only travelled to hospital once since then. I’ve not been in a shop, driven anywhere, nor has anyone I live with - SHIELDING- like we were told.

The hospital put me straight into a general ward - totally unprotected. It has taken me 38 hrs to get them to move me into isolation.

I am diabetic ( thanks to treatments) I have a blood cancer & Im under various novel immunotherapy treatments - making me probably one of the most vulnerable groups of patients on earth.

No common sense - follow protocol and don’t take a risk whatever you do - Health care mantra ( sometimes).

Still they’ve saved my life in the past - pointless killing me now with ineptitude. 😀
