Cardiac Arrest

My son had cardiac arrest two days ago. Now he is comatose. Somebody knows how long this condition can continue and how soon it can be improved?

How long was he out of oxygen?

It happend in hospital/ I think they start CPR right away

I had a cardiac arrest in hospital then was in a coma for 2 weeks, but it varies according to what caused the cardiac arrest. Mine was sepsis and other bits and bobs so the coma was to allow my lungs to heal x

Well, I'm alive, working, driving, writing, walking, earning, functioning. The first year is a bit hard, but I was back working full time in 6 months but each of us are different.

I had heart failure after going into septic shock, my heart failed because my kidneys & respiratory system had already failed. I remained in an induced coma from beginning of April to the beginning of June. I remained in ICU until the beginning of July 2016 & on the wards until beginning of August 2016.

I live pretty normally now but rehabilitation took effort not ‘f’ it.

It’s a brutal experience for everyone but trust that your son is in the best possible place being as ill as he is.

My brother had arrest year and half ago. At home, 15 minutes withouth oxigen minimum. 2 days in induced coma, he needed two weeks to wake up from coma. A year of therapy. Therapy still on but he is not able to live on his own, most of the time he does not speak, slow, no emotions, no interest in anything, he just sits and strears, no executive funkcion, does not walk good, incontinent. No motivation to make IT better. Doktors think he is doing Well and since he eats bi him self they think it could be worse. So every case is different. Some people get well as they used to be. Some do not. But they Are here and we Are happy for IT
