Flu Jab, anyone on here have a bad reaction from it?

My father had it done a few days before going into hospital with pneumonia and i'm wondering did it cause the pneumonia, doctors say it didnt but i have now learnt to never believe what they tell you.

It’s not a live vaccination so you can’t get the flu from it. My Mum died from the flu.. she didn’t have the flu shot. I’m definitely an advocate for it. She was in ICU for three months and I got to know the consultants well and I asked them if they think it would have saved her and they all agreed that they think it could have been the difference between life or death.

You can certainly have allergic reactions etc to shots but you can’t get the flu/pneumonia from it when it’s not a live vaccine.

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother. My father had the flu jab on a Monday and the following week he was in hospital with pneumonia so it proves it not very effective as the doctors say it is, also i wonder did it start his pneumonia as i remember he had a little sore troat a few days before he had the jab and it saids online vaccinated, your immune system is already hard at work trying to fight the germs that have caused that illness. This means it will be harder for your body to develop antibodies to the flu virus at the same time. It could mean that it will take longer for you to recover from your illness as your immune system tries to do double duty

I think it takes at least two weeks after the jab to develop immunity. I’m in Australia - I’m not sure if the formula is different in each country? It’s definitely not a guarantee but I definitely wish Mum had it and then if we had the same outcome, we would know that there was nothing else that could have been done.

It sounds like your Dad already had whatever was making him unwell. I know here in Australia you’re not meant to get it if you’re already unwell until you’re better but I don’t know if a sore throat would count... I think it’s more if you have had temps. It is really hard to have questions - we do as well with our Mum with certain things that happened.

Im sorry that you’ve lost your Dad and you have questions that you’ll never really know the answer to. Both my Mum and your Dad ended up losing their lives to pneumonia and it’s just not fair - they definitely deserved better.

So sorry to hear that Emrad1909! I'm having a post motem on my Dad just to make sure it was pneumonia and sepsis that he died from as i dont trust doctors! I think people need to know more about pneumonia and sepsis as most of the time we are only looking out for cancer.

Are you having the post mortem? Just be aware all the tests and the coroner’s report take a while. My grandad died in September and we are still waiting for the full results of the PM and the coroner’s verdict. I really hope this helps to provide you with some answers Mark xx

Bless you Vicky! Yes we are and i believe the results will be ready on Monday or Tuesday next week. My god your granddad one was a very long wait, sorry to hear that. I dont think the post mortem will be that different then what we already know but i have to make sure. Still feel guilty not being at his side when he was in the normal ward for 9 days but i know i cant change that now, just got to live with it. xx

You're feeling guilty, but there is only so much me can do.

I've been reading all your posts - you were there for your father when he needed the ambulance, you've been there for your father through most of this - with the exception of a Saturday night, and even now after he has passed away, you are still doing whatever needs to be done for him.

I gain the impression you have probably done for for him than anyone else in your family. Your father would have known this as well

You’ve done everything you can Mark and you’ve advocated for your Dad all the way through. You should be proud of yourself at how you cared for him and how you’ve coped since his death. I hope the PM brings the answers you are looking for xx

I agree about the trust not being there,

When my husband had peritonitis and was obviously getting iller and iller(it was a weekend) they left him for 3 days before they operated,

They deliberated over Operating for those 3 days,

It was impossible to get to speak to anyone, but trusted that they knew what they were doing.

By then he had severe septic shock. On his discharge they just wrote sepsis, even though he nearly lost his life to septic shock.

It opened my eyes that you really do have to be your own advocate

I would definitely have the flu vaccine and make sure both my children also have it. I was told by the doctors in ITU before I left to make sure I always have it.
