I hope this link helps you if you listen to this short programme

It’s by a former patient who is a trustee of ICU steps. It explains what happens in ICU delerium.

It is a traumatic and frightening time for both of you. I know as I saw my brother go through this when he was placed in an induced coma critically ill with sepsis.

Best wishes to you and your husband.

I know what the 'hallucinations' are like , I can after over a year still see them but I have learned to cope but it is not easy, living by myself I can't really answer your question, you have to be patient and I am sure talking about them with your husband will help, wishing you all the best, Garry 2017

ICU Delirium is very frightening & very real. It will take him time to work through what is real life & what isn't. I know I said some very strange things to friends & family when I was coming out of it. All you can do is be patient & supportive & try & understand when he says weird things that he's been in a world that was equally as 'real' as his world before he was ill.

I've had some counselling which has helped, and have made a time-line of my 'missing' days in ICU. I've also written down as much of the delirium as I can remember, it doesn't really make sense, but that wasn't the aim, I felt I had to get it out of my head. That's probably too much for him to do at the moment, but something to think about a few months down the line.

I do hope you find a way through this difficult time. Best Wishes.
