Stroke caused by induced coma
A stroke is caused by blood clot. You can get a blood clot at anytime whether you're in a coma or not. It's a blood clot in brain.
When you're in a coma, you're not moving around and thus prone to developing blood clots in the legs and elsewhere. Those clots can break away and travel, causing a stroke.
A hemorrhagic stroke can be caused by high blood pressure. Not all strokes are caused by clots. When my daughter was in ICU on ECMO, she was also on daily doses of blood thinners. When her blood pressure would be come erratic, sometimes pushing 210/100, the doctors told us she was at a very high risk of a stroke. A blood vessel can become weak and the rise in pressure can burst it and cause a bleed which in turn can cause a stroke. It can of course also cause clots. I would suggest having a chat to the doctor and asking any questions you have. They need to explain to you what is happening with your loved one.
