I too use my belly alternating side every day and ensuring shots are 2 inches away from the last injection on that side. That has been working to keep bruising/bumps to a minimum.

I agree with you, the legs hurt way too much. I tried the back of my upper arms and that worked but takes time to get the pinch in the right place as I have no one around to help. I would highly recommend icing before and after and going VERY slow with the injection - these have helped me with the bruising.

Good luck.

do you have a link to the article?

my fragmin really stings... is there any way to prevent that? I ice my stomache before I inject, which helps with the needle but not the stinging when i'm injecting.

Haven't yet figured out how to prevent bruising. Some of my injections bruise and some don't. Can't figure out why!

Hi All

I have the same problems as bove. I somrtimes think that I'm running out of available sites on my belly. Some shots hut, some don't, some bruise and some don't and some bleed and some don't. Nevertheless I feel better on Fragmin than Warfarin and overall it is less troublesome; no blood tests, avoiding certain foods etc.

Besy wishes.

I am a bit chubby - I did the tops of my legs -rotating the injections then moved onto the tops of my arms if my legs were a bit full (couldn't face doing my tummy ...you can do your bottom too but have to get someone to do that for you..and my OH wouldn't !!) ...(I also bought a swimming costume with little legs then I could take eldest swimming without stares)

What I found best was not to inject the air bubble - you will get a slightly reduced dose but it cut down on my bruising - I turned the syringe needle up and flicked it till the air bubbles were a big bubble at top and then gently pushed it until they'd just gone...

Also if I started putting the needle in and it really hurt I'd pull it out and do it slightly to one side - blunts the needle and increases risk of infection so only did it once per injection if nec -but think sometime you hit a nerve or something and it makes it more painful...

Finally I used to sing a song to my children when taking them for injections - (from some tv program for kids - maybe bear in the big blue house?) just repeats 'just one prick and its over' to some tune that I recognise but can't tell you what ... and I would chant that in my head if it was a bit sore - it will only last for a minute or two -and you will never have to do that injection again - if you are PG so only on it for a limited amount of time you could work out how many you have to do come up with a number and cross it off in your head...

I've just started a month trial of Clexane and I too am bothered about the bruising - just because it's unsightly and unattractive. Ab...Fab - I will definitely try your slowly-does-it techniques, plus icing. Do you find this totally prevent bruising or just minimise it?

I'm glad to hear that other sites besides belly and thighs are OK too. I asked Prof K about bum but he said no because of self-administration - but I don't find that a problem. I already inject B12 daily into my backside, and it's fine. Perhaps I'm especially bendy????

Back of upper arms might be a good one to try as at least bruises there are not going to be so ugly - especially, if you don't mind me saying, in, er, intimate situations.

Does anyone find that arnica helps, either cream or tablets?

Sorry ... firstly I have discussed with various nurses/doctors about removing the air - so I guess talk to your doc about it before doing it!

Don't do them anymore but did try several ways of doing it...and have been shown by more than one nurse/doc...and this worked for me ...also agree with the slowly approach...

This could open a whole subject of patient specific dosing... I can't take a full dose of nightnurse - knocks me out for 24 hrs plus ...full dose of non-drowsy sudafed makes me bounce off the walls ....but I'm not petite...

Personally I didn't want to do my tummy - absolutely freaked me out -even though I know it was irrational...mainly because after my big clot I got distended veins all over one side of my abdomen and one big varicose like vein coming up to my tummy button (main vein blocked for a few years so stretched other veins - something I find vaguely fascinating - how amazing are bodies) - a 'helpful' doctor told me not to worry about it - wear a support when exercising and the worse that could happen was it could 'pop' - which still makes my legs turn to jelly thinking about it and they are much improved now the main vein is clear and my blood return has returned to near normal ...but needles near my tummy - no could do....

Hello

No, I'm not having any trouble with the 15,000IU shots. I do sometimes find a place, just below and to the right of my navel, where I cannot get any Fragmin to go in, no matter how ard I push but if I pull the syringe out and try another place it works fine.

Best wishes.

when on clexane, I inject anywhere, my haemo & rheumy both agree it doesn't matter where I jab, as long as it's in. I go 4 tops of arms, thighs, side or arse generally, as if i bruise I can cover it up :0) I always pinch the area of skin up & away from the body I'm injecting in2 or in the case of my arms, hold the area taut & I find I rarely bruise.

Aps iis right that is really the only way,

In answer to your question about the article: three newspapers ran the same story -

The Sun on 1st Jan: thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/n...

And then in the Mail (and Metro - the Mail owns the Metro) on 3rd Jan: dailymail.co.uk/news/articl...

Dawn has helped raise a lot of awareness and our FB page has reached the most recipients since I started it five years ago :)
