g'day Sharon,
sorry to hear of your news. Post stroke I suffered from diplopia, double vision - mine being in the horizontal plane. Whilst it could be corrected with surgury I was advised against this as once a surgury is done it cannot be undone. Instead I was given a series of exercises and over a period of 7 months my diplopia resolved and no operation was needed in the end.
I dont know if the same is true in your case but maybe ask some questions.
Peter
Im exactly the same - make sure you get your consultant to register you as partially sighted - this enables you to use the nuses for free and patient transport services for hospital appts etc x
that should have read buses!
sorry!!!
Its the eyesight - i press the wrong buttons! Your specialist has to do the registration - they should do it automatically but it took two years before i contacted the RNIB and was told this should happen and i had to write to him myself to ask him to!
For me, it's both sides, and top and bottom. A result of multiple occipital lobe strokes, I have a 6 degree field in my left and 8 degree field in my right eye. With your hemiopia, you may want to talk to someone about prism glasses. The prisms will bring the right side back over into view, or at least part of it. However, be aware that they aren't for everyone, some people get nauseous wearing them.
Hi, I was told that the glasses wouldnt help my field of vision loss (homonymous hemanopia) I got some mad looking alien type glasses to wear in bright lights (havent dared to venture out wearing them!!) as ive been left with problems with glare/dullness/reading and I have to blink to get signals in my eyes refreshed (if i stare at anything it starts to dissapear)
