Hello mails678! The only thing I know is that Pradaxa is not available to APS patients, as far as I know, for the moment. How I understand it, it is currently under trials at St Thomas' to test its suitability. I was told that there wouldn't be any more information as to its suitability until 2013, and for the moment it is only used for patients with atrial fibrillation. I'm sure if there is a more current update someone will post here to give you a more definitive answer.

In the US, there have been more adverse drug reports from pradaxa than all other new drugs combined in 2012. There is no agent to reverse it, it has been big trouble in head trauma patients in particular.

No - it has not been trialled for APS and is particularly unsafe as there is no reversal option - unbelievable really! There could be possibilities in the future for Rivaroxaban - there is a multi center trial in the UK hopefully going ahead soon. The other possible option may be Apixaban but, again, nothing has been trialled for APS yet.

I have been on Pradaxa for almost a year now. No adverse effects, and none of the spontaneous bleeds that hospitalized me twice a year while on Lovenox (I failed with coumadin long ago). Pradaxa is easier to take and less expensive than Lovenox. No monitoring for levels. The lack of an "antidote" is, of course, troubling. Use for APS is "off label". At this point, I am now actively considering switching back. Doug.
