I am booked in for a Parathyroidectomy and I just wondered whether my APS, as an autoimmune disease, could have had something to do with parathyroid condition? Thank you.

Hi Raschen I had a Parathyroidectomy 10 years ago which was before I was diagnosed with APS (Although I think I did have it then ) . Looking back and hearing from others it seems there is a link but I can’t categorically say what . My Parathyroid Operation was done in Tampa by Dr Jim Norman it took 13 mins under sedation and when I came around the difference in how I felt was like night and day . I hope you get on ok . Look up the Parathyroid Centre and Dr Jim Norman . It’s very educational and informative.

Thank you very much for your message and very pleased you had an excellent experience and outcome in the US.

I have seen Dr Norman’s centre in Tampa online, but expect it thousands?

I have not been told whether I’m having an open or targeted op to remove the one adenoma seen on scans. I’m worried about complications, especially damage to the vocal nerve.

I was lucky my op was covered by Insurance I was only in hospital about 5 hours and then allowed back to hotel and ate as normal that evening . I flew home the next day. No damage to vocal cords and have a tiny one inch scar . I had to take the oral calcium regime but honestly it was so worth it .

Thank you for sharing your experience. If I had health insurance I would definitely do the same. Hoping to find an excellent surgeon in the UK!
