I wasn’t on warfarin but I was on plavix and xaralto with prednisone. I don’t believe anything noticeably changed but I have acquired severe osteoporosis as a result of my long term treatment of prednisone. I personally would recommend trying to get off prednisone if you can and if you can’t then make sure you get a lot of calcium and vitamin D to help prevent the likelihood of developing osteoporosis. I am only 45 but now have the bone density of an 80 year old and have suffered 3 fragility fractures. If I had known about this risk earlier I also would have gotten a dexa scan within the first 6 months of treatment and every 6 months thereafter. Sorry if I am not addressing the question you are seeking to answer here!! 🫤
hi there I have been on prednisolone since 2012 and warfarin since 2015.I have had no interaction at all
Ooh thanks so much for replying, much appreciated, so wonderful, so good thank for your feedback. I'll discuss it with my rheumatologist.
Best withes!
hi, I have to take warfarin with Pred (plus other meds) it does make your INR a little erratic so you will need to get your INR tested.
I was on Warfarin & prednisone for many years, approx 20. Still on prednisone but now on daily clexane. Had no issue taking the 2 drugs.
I only use Prednisone if having to have something like an antibiotic, as I am allergic to them, but, have only had a welcome reduction in symptoms from the short bursts I have with it, but never been on Warfarin. MaryF
it will thin the blood a bit- raise the inr.
I've been on Warfarin for 30 years and occasionally had to take high dose Prednisolone for periods of time. I had to keep a closer eye on my INR as it seemed to be more fragile, ie. less stable, but not sure if that was due to the Pred or the underlying problem for which I needed the steroid. Unfortunately I have developed a degree of osteoporosis so am on Calcium, vit D and Alendronic Acid to counter it, and I exercise as much as possible A few years ago after many months on gradually reducing doses of Pred. I was told I would need to stay on steroids for life. I was then switched to Budesonide which has fewer side effects. I still keep a close eye on my INR
Just remember, we're all different, so some may find the drugs react differently.
Best wishes
Thanks a lot Kerry, I will add your experience to my knowledge base. Happy to hear you are now on Budesonide which has fewer side effects.
Have appreciated your reply and the information you have provided. As you reminded that everyone is different, I' ll wait to see how I respond.
Very best wishes,

I recently had an lower respiratory and was given 7 days of prednisone and I'm on warfarin. I was advised to have my inr checked whilst taking it and then a week later to check if I needed to change my dosage. Thankfully inr was stable and I didn't have any interactions
This may be an upsetting post, but I would steer clear of pred. It killed one of my best friends, who had autoimmune liver disease. She started the pred 35 years ago, but she liked the way it made her feel so much that she refused to go off it. If you're starting pred., be aware that it can hook you into a real amphetamine-like "high." She was a professional editor and found the drug enormously increased her productivity. In 2022 she had a Covid cough that wouldn't go away. Her MD did some tests: she had lung cancer, presumably brought on by her excessive use of pred. She died on April 17, 2023
PLEASE BE AWARE that there are other immunosuppressants available: methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, azathioprine.
Take care of yourself!!
