APS medication( warfarin) and plaquinel for lupus

Hi everyone, I have had APS and been on warfarin for a little over a year now . My rheumatologist wants to prescribe plaquinel for mild lupus . Does anyone else take both ? He says it helps people with APS and adding plaquinel (for mild lupus ) to an already established blood thinner regimen causes a therapeutic state for APS patients . Does anyone else take both medications? Any issues ?

I have taken both medications for about 18 years and the plaquenil along with the warfarin gave me my life back. The plaquenil was a game changer. It sounds like our beginning was very similar. I was diagnosed with APS and began taking warfarin. My rheumatologist suggested I take plaquenil for the mild lupus and I’ve been on it since then. If you do decide to take the plaquenil be diligent about getting your eyes tested per your rheumatologist recommendations. Good luck.

I've been on Plaquenil now for over 15 years - game changer for me.

Have been on warfarin for over a decade. A year ago due to joint and muscle aches and pains have added Planquenil to the mix. Has been very helpful with fatigue and pains and aches (maybe mild lupus or maybe APS symptoms/overlap). what is the reason they are looking to add it to your regime? All the best

Me too. Taking both for about a year, primarily to see if the plaquenil brings down high titers (I’m triple positive). I feel good in both and so glad to hear this protocol has helped so many!!

I could not tolerate Plaquenil, due to my drug allergies which are serious, however my daughter has done really well on it for years. MaryF

I use both. I no longer use Coumadin but inject w/ 80 ml 2x daily of heparin as well as 200 mg of Plaquenil. It has made a world of difference. Warfarin was not working well for me and my rheumatologist first put me on Plaquenil but once I was taken off Warfarin and now inject with the heparin, I feel so much better. I have been on the Plaquenil for about 8 yrs. and find it really makes a big difference. I also go to my regular eye dr. for the exam. When I first had my eyes checked, I was going to an Opthamologist and the testing was much more expensive with my insurance. Since then, I go once a year to a regular Optomotrist my insurance covers it. The doctor did say to me that I'm at the mark where I probably have to go every six months.
