I was wonder if getting the Covid Vaccine will also prevent clots from Covid? I know with the vaccine, you are supposed to have a more mild Covid case if you get it (like the flu shot). Since Covid does increase the chances of thrombosis, is there still a chance of having a blood clot with a mild case of Covid even with the vaccine?
Thank you,

Hi, we are very much in the learning phase with all of this, I think probably it is better if you have the vaccine, but your GP or specialist would be in a better position to answer you. MaryF
I doubt anyone knows, yet. I did see someone (I think it was Prof Beverly Hunt) knowledgeable saying at one point that the Covid thrombosis risk _only_ happens if it progresses to pneumonia, which probably wouldn't be "mild". I've only seen that stated once though and haven't read it anywhere else.
If on warfarin I think there is always a risk with _any_ acute illness because diet, exercise, metabolism, stress are all changed (before you add any medication) which (for me at least) affects INR, which obviously in turn affects clotting risk. Usually mine goes up when ill, but if I am ill I do do extra testing to make sure I know what it's doing. It went up after vaccination too... (gone back down now).
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's INR went up mine jumped to 15.1 been haveing extra bloods done since it's been all over the place also feeling sick all the time dreading 2nd dose but I guess in the long run it's better to have it.
I had Covid and my INR went high, which I have heard was the norm with warfarin. Mine only jumped up by 1. Many get very high. I had heard this before I got Covid, so I was not fearful of clots like I was over the past year Sounds like vaccine has the same effect.
This I find interesting, the people who draw my blood, the nurses and doctors that I have seen lately, are NOT getting the vaccine. They can’t elaborate as they “ will get in trouble”. Makes one think.
I had Covid before Christmas. I was advised to switch to Fragmin / clexane injections by my APS Consultant and come off warfarin completely due to the extra risk of clots. I can confirm that, even though I’ve now had the vaccine, if I were to get it again then the advice will be the same. I need my range checking every week as I’m often out of range. Post vaccine, it was the most stable it’s been in a long time for the next 3 weeks. My first check was 5 days post vaccine and my INR was within range.
