Good afternoon everyone, I read on a BBC article published earlier that the covid vaccine is not suitable for a weak immune system , does having aps and itp mean i have a weak immune system in a medical term?? I need to know this as I work in a hospital and as some of you know that I caught covid and was sick for over 9 days 😪

IMHO, you need to speak with your consultant regarding covid-19 vaccines, of which there are many & different types. Those with compromised immune systems are the very people who need to be protected.

I would not base my decision on articles, the BBC or forums. Speak to your consultant.

With good wishes,

Ros

Thanks for quick reply , yes I will ask tommorow as I couldn't even get the flu jag in work last month had to go to GP as I was deemed high risk and the staff who were doing the vaccinations told me they were not allowed to

That is shocking. You should be a priority for fly, covid-19. The bureaucracy of the NHS is potentially fatal. You need to speak to especially your consultant. There are different kinds and it may be that the first will be the "biologics". As I said, this is very complex - even for doctors -! 😄

I know , it was a nightmare trying to get flu jag , they said it was because of the warafin I take and that it was risky incase they hit a blood vessel , but then I found that really it was because there was not a doctor present who would need to administer it . For me it's probably just about incase someone made a mistake and it fell on fellow staff 🙃

A flu jab hitting an artery?! Are they going to puncture the carotid article?! 🤯

A squeeze of the top of the arm, using a small diabetic-like needle . . . . No artery is present!

A nurse is more than capable. In fact, one could do it to oneself. I have never heard such nonsense!

Sorry for my sarcasm!

Be well!

I know , I called gp and had it done 2 days later it took literally seconds, I just hope no one else catches covid , what I am sick of seeing is people who call it fake and lies 😔 I can tell everyone here its not like a cold or flu its literally its own new illness, fever and bad chest , extremely tired , loss of taste and smell everything tasted like metal horrible taste and the fact it nearly killed my own mum says it all , stay safe everyone

From a frontline nhs employee 🙂

Seems to be a boatload of confusion and contradictory advice on this. There is/was definitely (well, as definite as my memory gets...) formulary advice to avoid giving vaccines intramuscular and use subcut instead for patients with high bleeding risk. If the person vaccinating isn't trained for subcut then that'll trip the "got to call the doctor" line. However, there is also more specific advice / guidelines out there for just the flu vaccine being ok IM (and also maybe confusion on whether the bleeding risk is for bleeding disorders only or includes anticoagulant use). Here's just two contradicting references:

independentpharmacist.co.uk...

bnf.nice.org.uk/drug/influe...

Where there is confusion it isn't unreasonable for staff giving the vaccine (might not even need be nurse qualified I think?) to refer upwards to doctor. It isn't an emergency situation so "if in doubt, don't".

Pretty sure that when I had flu jabs they were given IM, from a doctor. That said, I don't have them now because of bad reaction....

I had the flu jab at my local chemist who had absolutely no problem with me being on warfarin, had prechecked with the Anticoag clinic, who work for my main consultant. No issues at all. I will cross check about the Covid vaccine when it comes, but have every intention of taking it. As I’ve travelled extensively in S Asia and Africa I’ve had just about everything going over the years (admittedly pre APS).

Hi, start with a chat with your GP, and also seek the advice of your specialist consultant, between them you will be able to be guided to the correct decision for your own personal case. MaryF

I take several vitamins including those you mentioned. B12, magnesium are among them

I have a weak immune system due to multiple sclerosis and I’ve decided against the Covid vaccine should I get offered it. I think it’s a personal choice and I respect others who are happy to have it. Take care.

Hi Londinium,

As we all have APS here and are different and also unique in a special way we should ask our Specialist before we take the vaccination to Coviq-19.

I live in Sweden but I guess it is the same question in practically every country.

As to mask-wearing even the Doctors have different opinions but most of them believe we protect others from getting our Covid-19 by wearing it. It is not forbidden to use it.

Not what you're looking for?
