APS - pregnant again after 3 miscarriages

Hey all again,

I'm pregnant after having 3 recurrent miscarriages in row and as per my previous post I have been diagnosed with APS weak positive.

I'm slightly confused if I should start taking Heparin Injections from today?

My rheumatologist said from pregnancy so not sure plus my follow up appointment is not until 29th July.

I wasnt expecting to get pregnant so quickly.

I'm already on 75mg of baby Asprin and hydroxychloroquine.

Any advice please? I'm absolutely scared and terrified. I hope this one sticks xx

Hi if I were you, I would phone the doctor on call or speak to a pharmacist, if you have already got a prescription I am sure they would advise you

Good luck

I have the injections ready at home. I will call them Monday now. Just not sure if I should do it tonight.

HI there, congratulations, and please ring your consultant asap, and leave an urgent message, it is important that you have the correct medical guidance, which will also help your GP manage your care also. MaryF

Beepi,

Firstly,

Congratulations! And you need to urgently see an APS Specialist obgyn.

I will tell you that not any two women will react the same to Anti Phospholipid antibodies.

I do know Professor Natasha Jordan at London Bridge has had experience from the rheum side with a woman with low antibodies but had to deliver early with another complication, and it was quite a good thing she did, because as it turned out, she ,” had a lot of clotting when she was opened.” The baby was delivered in the nick of time , but would have started suffering very quickly. She shared this story with me in clinic about a year ago.

I’m glad you’ve asked early on- but plan to urgently see an APS Specialist.

I don’t have anything to add here, other than I wish you a healthy pregnancy. Be kind to yourself and rest where possible. Xx

Hi Beepi, glad to see you have started the injections. Just wanted to add that I wish you good luck. Pregnancy after loss can be such a scary thing. I had my rainbow after 3 losses due to APS. The meds did the trick for me.

Feel free to PM me if you need to talk about pregnancy with APS x

Aww thank you my love xxx. I am still petrified. Actually keep doubting and waiting for the pregnancy to end. I know I shouldn't xx

I can totally relate to that. The fear started to subside a bit after around a 10 week scan but was still nerve wracking the whole way. Are you planning on having extra scans?

I had extra feral Doppler scans to check growth and blood flow etc, and I found them comforting.

Hope you’re doing as well as you can be xx

Hey sorry I just saw your reply. My first scan is on the 1st Aug so I'll be just over 6 weeks.

I'm on progesterone cyclogest and I think its irritated my cervix. Anyway yesterday I went to the loo, wiped and i saw a bit of pinkish blood, came home and wiped again tiny bit of brown blood. I really hope this is not going to be my 4th Miscarriage, dont think I can cope with it again. I have read the progesterone cyclogest can cause spotting so I'm holding on to that hope :(

Sorry to hear you are having worries. How are you getting along?

I personally had to stop my aspirin and double my progesterone when I spotted. It’s very common to spot, especially when you’re on all these meds.

I hope you are doing ok xx

Hey hun, spotting is stopped so no red blood, that was only once and I'm inserting the progesterone up the rectum (not fun at all) still having a really weird brown/clay mildly looking discharge when I wipe though but no pain what so ever! I'm just a paranoid freak now, my private gynecologists said it's most likely the cyclogest progesterone that's irritated it. I cant help just to think of the worst x

Oh sorry, it’s no fun at all is it?!

I’ve been part of a multiple MC group, and spotting is both common and nerve racking! It can be a sign of bad things but we’ve found that all the successful pregnancies have encountered spotting early on. The anxiety should settle down quite a bit as you progress along (although it might never go) but you are on meds now and have a way better chance at success. The odds are in your favour now rather than against you xxx

I lost my 1st baby at 37 weeks, (prior to diagnoses, this came nearly 20 years later) , I totally get your petrified and this is totally natural, your feelings you mention above, is so honest and understandable.

I went on to have 2 children, who are healthy and happy. Through these pregnancies, I never believed it would happen and I'm sure the midwifes got fed up with trying to reassure me?!

Medicine, support and understanding of APS has come along way, since my time.

Your pregnancy will be fraught and worrying at times, other times will be joy, hearing heartbeat and watching on scans.

I wish you success on this new journey xx

Hi All

Just to give you an update, I had my 12 week scan and we received the most devastating news that our baby has down syndrome. Most likely Turners syndrome. Nuchal translucency measurements are 6mm where should be under 2mm. The baby has severe Hydrop and cystic hygloma.

Finally when I thought my medication for APS is working and I have finally got my rainbow baby when infact it's just been taken away from me. I am having a termination this week.

This will he my 4th pregnancy which hasnt worked out.

We had our chromosome tested on both me and my husband before we started trying again and all clear. Doctor said it's really really bad luck. I'm like how much bad luck can I get !

:(

Oh I'm so so sorry, words can't express the devastation you both must be feeling.

I wish you lots of strength to get through this week and beyond. xx
