Has anyone ever gotten Gastric problems from having a Chest Cold that has lasted over 2 weeks? I started out with a horrible chest cold was out on antibiotics, I’m still not better but Dr assures it’s not pneumonia. This weekend I got a sudden back ache then my stomach become very bloated with lots of pain. This is Day 2 & it’s not much better. As I have been trying to diagnose myself.... I’ve read you can develop Gastritis from having other illness because your immune system is already in a tizzy. Has anyone else heard of this or had happen to you? I’m gonna give it a couple more days then will go back to Dr again!!!

Hi, sorry you have been ill, these things take time, especially if we have an underlying illness in the first place. Antibiotics can strip out your natural gut flora, which can leave your stomach vulnerable to upset or further bugs. I take probiotics, strong ones, daily, but after an antibiotic, even stronger ones for two weeks, however do check with your GP before adding something new to your regime, and if on Warfarin keep an eye on your INR as so much can upset that. Phillips Colon health? My gastro in San Antonio says its as good as any other- the studies show.

I’d try to avoid all wheats / gluten for a while. ( I’m general for ever.) You can limit them anyway.

If you have sugar- use only table sugar. Limit it greatly.

Juice? Cut with water. We don’t really need it- I drink only 10% apple juice with 90% water.

I’m trying to make sure you are not having bacteria colony ( where they should not be) bloom in your intestine and bloom - then off gas’s hydrogen causing your symptoms. They love to digest sugars- then they , being living organisms, process / “digest” / sugars - and give off hydrogen as a by product.

Look up fructose mal absorption . ( not to be confused with intolerance- which is a rare genetic disorder called aldolase B deficiency.)

I have fructose malabsorption. So do my kids. It’s really common. It’s a broad term- it usually means your digestive system is upset about something!
