Weight GAIN after stopping prednisolone??

I stopped taking prednisolone a month ago. I haven't lost an ounce. What's more, my shape is worse than ever, worse even than when I was taking the steroids. My stomach is huge and flabby, to the extent that it flops over the waistband of my jeggings. That's never happened to me, ever! I eat frugally, very few naughties. I was always a very slim 7.5 stones. Now 8 stones and a completely different shape.

Is this common after stopping prednisolone? I have been on and off, but mostly on, them at low doses for 5 years. Is it fluid retention? My ankles are hardly showing any. If it is fluid retention, should I try some diuretics for a while???

Help! Really really REALLY fed up, after the effort of stopping the damn things not to be seeing some benefit!

Hello, sorry you feel like that, and actually I know how you feel, however my weight gain was caused by my slow thyroid, which despite being regularly tested on the NHS did not show up, I did my own and now after continuing as I always have done to follow a healthy Mediterranean Diet, incorporating low GI and of course my Thyroid meds plus daily exercise - it has all come off me now, all 3.5 stone. There is nothing worse than doing your best and feeling that progress has stalled. However this is early days and maybe it will just all settle down. I would give it time to settle myself, but perhaps ask your GP's opinion. MaryF
