The cheapest I have found is Freedom ins, they have covered me for strokes, APS & SS. I have used them for many years for weekends away & holidays for 2-6 weeks. Nothing has been a problem, or too much trouble. I dont even bother getting other quotes now. Try them & have a good holiday.

Saga are brilliant and don't ask stupid questions. How much you pay depends on what conditions you have and where you are going.

Price varies, but I have found anywhere from 2x to 10x more expensive than when I was healthy and could shop around with more freedom. Single trip also now easier to find than annual multi-trip cover. Some providers (including the one I used to use for an annual policy) will just refuse cover.

I have started to think that the medical questions are a bigger issue than the price - if they decide you have answered _anything_ wrong then they can refuse claim, but they only start checking after you have run up a big claim. I find the questions are often ambiguous and the quotes vary if you answer them different ways - e.g. did I have a TIA or a mini-stroke or stroke or a blood clot (in brain) or all of them, I have all of those in various places on medical paperwork, for the same event.

I have changed to looking for policies that have no medical questions or a medical declaration I can easily meet, I pay more but have more confidence they won't be able to weasel out of paying. Sometimes travel-agent or tour-operator policies (the expensive ones you used to avoid by shopping around) can be ok in this regard.
